It must be there, but I can't find it... how to go to next

How to go to next image in directory?

If I want to go from one image to another in a directory, I need to be able to display the first (or any) image in that directory, then use a key shortcut to go to the next, and the next...

This is such a basic thing that I must be simply not finding it.

Krita is a painting program, not a file browsing program, why do you expect this to be there? What are you exactly trying to do and where?

No matter what you are using it for, if you have more than one, it's a really good thing to have an easy route to go to the next one to review / show off / find your work.

I'm trying to use it for photo editing and review, but it's a pain to use having to individually load each shot. It certainly appears that it accommodates this use, with the camera and film templates, but without a "next" function, much utility is lost.

Please add a "next" feature. I'm sure many people will find it very useful.

Thanks!

@Roger : heck, drawing programs and image manipulation programs usually don't have this feature - as they're not intended for such use. My suggestion would be to use an image viewer and set it up in a way that it would open Krita when you click edit / press shortcut etc .

Check out IrfanView. If it had a bit more power and would run in Linux, it would be perfect. Space bar = next, Back = back. Pretty good fix / editing capability.

BUT Krita is my current best answer. Your suggestion is a bit complicated but I suppose do-able. What viewer that you are familiar with can do those things (easy "next" and "back", and instant jump to edit in Krita)?

Thanks!

Yeah , but IrfanView is an image viewer , not a painting / photo manipulation app . Most viewers have some sort of basic editing capability , but as soon as you need to do some serious stuff you move to apps designed for such tasks. Hence my suggestion to pair image viewer with Krita.

I agree, that's why I said I need more capability. But it's still almost good enough when you open the Paint Dialog and use all the other editing tools. Have you seen it recently?

So Image Viewer will do the things you mentioned? Without the Harry Potter type dialog?

just to make sure - I wrote image viewer (not Image Viewer) as I have a class/type of program in mind , not a specific app.
You should check options in the image viewer you use - many have the ability to use external editors. You need to check with the one you use. I think IrfanView had this feature - but don't take this word for granted as it has been a while since I've used it (nowadays I rarely use Windows, even less frequently on my own pc).
It is a really simple solution if your viewer supports it - usually you got to options and choose the editor you want to use. That's it.

edit: I've been right - Irfan View has/had this option:

The system I really need this on is a Linux system, and IrfanView won't run there.

For the next couple of days, I'm not at the Linux system, but I can check viewing programs later.

This leads to the next question : Would I have to shut down Krita after editing one file, before the next one, or will the next edit call clear Krita and work with the new file, or?
