Good morning, first time poster here.
I've been using Krita for a while now, but when I recently updated to the newest version, it started having this crash everytime I'd use the graphics tablet. I always starts quite well, it makes new files and opens too and it works quite well with the mouse, but as soon as I put the pen on the tablet, it freezes and crashes. Before I open or create a file, as soon as use the table it closes automatically. Here's a log on the error by crash report from windows, sorry it's in portuguese. Hi,
Can you check whether an older version of Krita still works? You can download portable zip files from files.kde.org/krita/windows, just unzip and execute bin/krita.exe. Did you get any windows updates in the meantime? We didn't change our tablet code, but we've been getting more reports from genius users about crashes lately... |

I reinstalled the previous version, it's working again. Thanks for the help.

And that while pretty much nothing changed in the tablet handling. I'm extremely puzzled and am trying to brick my laptop with a win10 install now so I can do a bit of debugging.

Hi,
I've just got the same problem here. Krita 2.9.7.6 crashes when I'm using my tablet. If I launch Krita by clicking with my mouse it opens but when I take my pen, it crashes. If I launch Krita with my pen it crashes at opening. I don't get any crash report sorry. I've tried with Krita 2.9.6.3, all is working great ! I'm using Win 7 64bit. All my drivers are up to date. My tablet is a Trust (trust.com/18469) Cheers, Max |

I'm having the same problem. Only difference with me is I downloaded Krita 5 days ago, I ran it the next day and it worked great with my tablet. Then 2 days ago, I ran it again and when I tried to use the tablet (when I near the pen to the tablet, I suppose when it gets the first input), Krita immediately closes. To my knowledge, I'm still using the same version I initially downloaded.
I don't get an error and I checked Windows error logs and I don't see anything relevant. I tried repairing my installation in case some file got altered, but it didn't make a difference. I downloaded the portable previous version krita_x64_2.9.6.3 and it works fine. (Also downloaded the portable version of 2.9.7.6 but it has the same problem.) I'm running Windows 7 x64 and using a Trust Flex tablet (http://www.trust.com/en/product/16937-f ... blet-white). |

Same problem with the latest version of Krita, I start the application and as soon as my pen gets near the tablet it crashes. Krita 2.7 worked, but eventually crashed. same drivers on both cases.
downloaded the portable pre-alpha version, 2.9 (git 562e 105), it works! portable 2.9.6 worked too, but nothing beyond that version. I'm using windows 8.1, a Nvida 751Ti graphic card, 16 Gb RAM and a Genius M712X tablet. |

Update on my previous post.
I upgraded to Windows 10 and the latest version of Krita worked fine with my tablet (I didn't install any drivers for the tablet). Then my tablet stopped working and while searching how to fix it, I installed the Trust drivers for the tablet I have (even though it has no Win 10 compatibility). It ended up being a battery issue, but the driver really messed things up. Krita would now shut down as it used to in win 7 and in another program I used the pencil was stuck on clicking. So, I uninstalled the Trust drivers and returned to the windows generic ones. And it now works fine once again. Just putting this here in case it helps someone. ![]() Edit: I have no idea how I thought this helped the problem, without the drivers the pressure levels don't work. ![]()

I'm still using Win7x64 with a Genius M712 tablet, and can corfim that with Krita 2.9.6.3 there is no issue so far. When I upgraded to 2.9.9 this week, I couldn't even start Krita if I used the tablet pen; it immediately crashed. Alternatively, if pen is not used during startup, I can sometimes start painting with a brush for a brief time (with no sensitivity whatsoever) before it crashes and shuts down.
I have tried all x64 versions from 2.9.7 to 2.9.9.1, and also the beta version of the Animation Edition, and issue still happens. Gonna post updates with the 32-bit versions. Update: same thing with the 32-bit version of 2.9.9.1. Also found that if I stop using the pen and use the mouse instead, when I use the pen again krita immediately crashes. |

Which is kind of inexplicable, since there is no difference at all in the tablet handling code between those versions!

Yeah, I already read your previous post. I'm no dev so I cannot look at the code. Is there a way I can help doing some debugging? Never ever did that before so I don't really know what to do.
Update: Well, apparently the bug has already been reported, and I see you've answered there as well ![]() Thanks, Boudewijn! |

This post was the reason to join here.
I have same problem, and "fixed" it with installing old version, like described above. Krita is so cool, even without updates ![]() |

Hi, I downloaded the latest (unstable) version of Krita (3.0) and this time instead of just closing when I tried to use the tablet, it displayed a message to debug. So, I opened it in Visual Studio to see what happens and I got this message:
"Unhandled exception at 0x0000000180002AD7 (WINTAB32.dll) in krita.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x0000000000000000." I don't know if that helps. (I am a programmer so maybe I can check the developer page and see if I can try to debug it.) |

Which tablet is that? If it's a Trust or a Genius, a crash is to be expected. Since the crash happens inside wintab.dll, it's good odds that it's actually a bug inside the driver. Most tablet manufacturers make their drivers with just one application in mind: photoshop. So another application that might follow the wintab spec might still crash the driver, just because it does something the driver programmers hadn't expected.
