Like, recording a speed paint from Krita. I see that there's a .KRAREC type of recording file, but I'm a bit lost.

EDIT: Does this still apply? viewtopic.php?f=139&t=124316

.krarec files are saves macros,
what you want is a software to do video screencaptures

on linux, there is "simple screen recorder" that does the job very well

i don't know about the options available on windows

I use OBS to stream or record Krita window. Relatively easy to set up: https://obsproject.com/

So if I'm drawing a piece of work and it's going to take over 10 hours, I have to record 10 hours?

I thought there was some sort of feature in Krita that replayed what was drawn from beginning to end...

There is, but it only records painting, not the other tools. And the replay is likely too fast to follow, because it's a macro system, not a video recorder. After you've recorded your video, you can speed it up with something like kdenlive.

Ah, this clears it up a little bit. However, when I tried to record the macros and try to play them back, my screen freezes a little bit and nothing changes. Is there more clarity on what I'm supposed to do and how to do it? Thanks! Using Windows 8 as well

I just tried FRAPS in Windows. Somehow, Krita does not show up as an OpenGL program to FRAPS. It does not record or take screenshots.

Oh well, worth a try.

Action! -https://mirillis.com/game-recorder takes just one click to start recording the screen. It's paid, but has a free trial. It's better than Fraps.

I would love to know how to record the painting! I can't seem to find anyone talking about it anywhere apart from this https://docs.krita.org/fr/reference_man ... _menu.html

But, how do I start a macro in krita? Sorry...just starting.

As far as I know that feature has been removed from Krita latests versions. Reasons seems to be: no mantainer, very buggy, not well designed (very complex)

Older versions still has the feature but I was unable to make it work. The best you can do to record painting process is to do a screenrecord.

Another option (a good one in fact) is to use a program like OBS, is open source just like Krita, you can record you whole screen or parts of it, save or stream, etc.

For editing, there is programs like Kedenlive where you can "shrink" for speed paints, or else.

By the way, this is a very old thread, Krita has change quite a bit in the last years, you will find very difficult for many comments in old topics to apply on today versions. :)

Thx everyone for replying!
Yeah, I actually tried OBS before asking, issue was that it was recording my stylus. (It doesn't record my mouse pointer, only the stylus point).
And I also couldn't find anywhere that can remove it.
I thought recording it natively in krita might be a easier solution.

Someone knows something like OBS, but not OBS? Find these programs: https://www.bestadvisor.com/screen-capture-software It compares with their pros and cons. I hope it'll be useful for someone
