Updating...

Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:38 am
Just testing 2.9.9.2ae_beta_x64, and whenever I pause for a moment after drawing a stroke, "Updating..." appears with a progress bar in the lower right for a few seconds. It occurs whether Instant Preview Mode is on or off, and I don't see any difference to the image once it's updated.

The main issue here is that if I draw another stroke while it's carrying out this process, the stroke doesn't appear until it's finished updating. I can see this becoming particularly frustrating... what is being updated exactly, and is there any way to make it stop?

Thanks!

Hmm.. now I'm trying to use it with Instant Preview turned on, and between all the "Instant Preview", "Freehand Brush Stroke" and "Updating..." interruptions I'm finding it very difficult to get any actual drawing done.

So... I take it nobody else is experiencing this? It's especially noticeable on larger images, e.g. 10k

I experience this too,

one probable explanation is that when you draw a stroke a small resolution preview is rendered temporarily on the canvas while actually the hi-res version is still rendering in the background, but since the actual stroke is not yet completed you cannot move further or do actions like color picking from the stroke you had just drawn.

i'll search the bug tracker for a report and if it isn't there i'll try to give this feedback to the devs ( I am sure they must have heard this one)

Thanks for confirming - I've had to revert to the previous build for now, but when I was testing this one I remember not being able to see any difference in resolution after it had finished updating.
