When I read the update stating that the Animation feature has now been implemented into the newest version of Krita, I was ecstatic. But then I noticed that the only systems mentioned in the announcement were Windows and Ubuntu (which I'm assuming is Linux??). I downloaded the newest build for OSX, hoping maybe the package would already be there, but I found none of the animation features while looking through the dockers menu. Is there going to be animation for OSX? Or am I doing something wrong and there's a file somewhere out there for the animation features?

Honestly, I don't know yet.
Apple, in their infinite desire to lock in developers and users to their systems, decided to deprecate OpenGL and introduce yet another special API, Metal, that nobody else can, may or will support. We won't be porting Krita to Metal, that's for sure. I will try to make Krita's OpenGL code work with the absurdly limited OpenGL drivers Apple ships these days, but I might fail at that. I did buy a 2200 euro Macbook Pro to work on the OSX port, but the blasted thing overheats, has a **** keyboard and horrible battery life. Not for nothing, OSX El Capitan has been neatly and accurately renamed El **** by Blender developers who are hitting the same issues as we do, only more so. The thing is, the animation feature and the instant preview feature depend on OpenGL to function. Without decent, compatible OpenGL, no joy. And that's Apple's decision: they decided to stop fully supporting a standard api for no good reason at all except pure cupidity. I feel that the laptop I bought has turned out to be a lemon. For me. |

Well, that surprises me. I didn't know our forums were so sensitive to mild adjectives like the minor variation on El Capitan that I used above.

Ah, I see. That's really a shame... I honestly don't know all that much about computers and software, but I hope you guys can figure something out~
I'm actually still on OSX Mavericks (on a 2009 MacBook), which I'm pretty sure uses OpenGL?? Thank you for answering my question, anyway! |

Mavericks was a little less limited that El Capitan -- I've got it on a mac mini -- but there were still plenty of problems.
But we'll see where I end up. Right now, the macbook pro is making bubbles in the table's varnish trying to build Krita ![]() |
