Merge layers from a selection

Tue Dec 22, 2015 9:16 am
I have a custom texture that I want to use in a specific area. I cannot get the fill with pattern option to work as I cannot pan the fill (pattern).
So I now have the texture as a second layer. On the top layer I use the magic wand to select the area that I want to merge with the second layer, but it merges the whole canvas.
How can I get it to only merge the two layers but where I have the selection only?

Just add a transparency mask to your texture layer - it will only retain your selection.

Hi Slither1701

and adding to what gdquest told, if you want to pan the texture , just lock the transparency mask layer and move the image which is masked, this will move the image but not the mask

Thanks for the quick reply. But what then? As soon as I delete the second and transparent layer I loose the change. How do I I merge the result with my first layer?

LOL got it. My Merge was just not selecting the correct layer.
