PSD export buggy in krita git, or just incompatible?

I use PSD files to export out of krita and into other applications, such as gimp. AFAIK, it's the only cross compatible format for multi layer images which preserve 16-bit color precision. I was using krita 2.9.9, and as I remember, everything was working fine. Now with 2.9.10, it seems the exported PSD files are incompatible with other applications. I just rebuilt to test, and also happens on git fed0421.

Well, if you check this: https://krita.org/item/krita-2-9-10/

You can see here that we had to fix a bug for compatibility with PS-saved psds. So it's likely that all other applications still have this bug.

I'd actually suggest that you mail both the gimp-devel, mypaint, create and kimage(that's the krita mailing list) mailing lists to see if they want to extent openraster to support 16bit integer images.

I also would like to have a .kra and a .psd file produced from the .kra that shows this problem -- it is, of course, possible that we did break something there: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357559 is a recent report. However, without a good test file I just cannot begin to debug.

Could you, apart from making a bug with and adding the files I asked for, also try this (since you're building Krita yourself):

* git revert 22f7b3b9171f2ee79abd816ebd6d0da49174c3f2
* build again
* test again

That is the only psd-related commit we had between 2.9.9 and 2.9.10.

Sorry. I spaced out, before. I haven't asked on gimp lists about 16-bit color ora. yet, but here are some sample files.

kra file

psd file

I'm posting those examples, anyway, but I think I found the trigger. I think that using layer groups (and possibly other features) is what renders psd incompatible in other applications. I didn't have more time to rebuild with the revert, but my guess is that the old behavior will return, once the revert is applied. If it doesn't, I'll report back. But the workaround on up to date krita appears to be that you must not use anything but regular layers, when saving to psd, if you want them to open the file in gimp, et al.

edit: I was wrong. I rebuilt with the revert and the same thing happens. Either I missed something before, or the cause is somewhere else, but the workaround mentioned above works, in either case.

Hi, ipcat!

I have just tried your KRA and PSD files and they seem to be one-layered and open correctly in Gimp and Krita. I also tried to add a group layer to them. And even after that Krita and Gimp can open the resulting file. Could tell more exactly what is your problem? Which file cannot be open and on what software?
