I know a few people have posted about issues revolving around the Surface Pro (3 and 4), but I'm super desperate for anything to try!
Krita opens fine, as usual (no black screens), and I can open a new canvas with no problems. The problem starts when I actually try to use my pen. When I draw with any color selected, it's muted/the opacity is crazy low. I can fix that easily by turning off the Pen Settings, but then there's no pressure sensitivity. Also, the first button on my pen (the eraser button) doesn't work at all, like the binding got changed/removed. I can't bind it to the eraser, either... Also, I've managed to turn OpenGL on/off, which doesn't really do much for me. I'm really upset that Krita isn't working... one of the main purposes I got this tablet, was that I heard that it worked fabulously with Krita. Am I just doomed until 3.0 comes out? |

Well, that's a new set of issues... I haven't heard of this before. I guess you did install the n-trig wintab driver from Microsoft? Does the 3.0 pre-alpha have the same issues? The tablet support for that version was actually rewritten by Michael to work with _his_ SP3...

Yes. I've uninstalled and re-installed the ntrig drivers, even with the help of Microsoft. I'm currently using the Krita v. 2.9.11, so if that's the pre-alpha, then yes (if not, I'm not sure how to go about getting in on that).
When I did speak to Microsoft, they sent me a new tablet pen, thinking that it was something wrong with my own, but I have just received it and it's not changing a thing. |

No, the pre-alpha is labeled with a '3' -- check todays news for download links.

Thank you! I'll be sure to test it out to see if anything has changed! EDIT: I have just finished installing the pre-alpha and nothing has changed, save for the fact that I actually had to turn the OpenGL off to recover from the "Black Screen of Death". |

'installing the 3.0 alpha'? Did you download the msi file or the zip file? Because 3.0 alpha is only available as a zip file from the news posts... |

I downloaded the zip file for Windows and extracted it. I followed the instructions on the news update, explaining how to open it. |

okay, just double checking because people have been confusing the stable and experimental releases.

So, Thera and Boud, is there nothing I can do? Will I just have to wait until the official release of Krita, or is it something with my Surface Pro?

Well, I cannot fix a bug I cannot reproduce (mostly, crashes on linux are an exception...), so I cannot even promise that the final version of Krita 3.0 will work for you. The second developer preview works for me and for Michael Abrahams, on both our Surface Pro's...

Fellow SP3 user here (using the SP4 Pen).
I spoke to Boud in the IRC chat a few days ago about not having any pressure sensitivity in Krita (possibly due to the windows firmware update in January). Anyways, I tried all the classic uninstall/reinstall maneuvers of both Krita and the Wintab drivers. I spent several hours with Microsoft chat support as well. Nothing fixed it. (BTW I still had pen sensitivity in OneNote... suspicious!) So I gave up and installed PS CS6, since I had a reg. key from work. The UI of CS6 on the Surface Pro 3 is terrible though. I couldn't deal with the microscopic menus. So I decided to try Krita once more and just learn to live without pen pressure sensitivity. And then something amazing happened. Somehow, pressure sensitivity returned! It's a miracle. Maybe CS6 had something to do with it? Just wanted to pass on the news. |

Actually, this is known already. What we suspect happens is that PS replaces dodgy windows libraries with it's own and that fixes everything.
It's the intel driver issue that we're puzzled by right now. |

Is there any way that I could try this, or try to duplicate this? I don't have access to any sort of key, and, although I would love for my pen to work again, I don't think I'm willing to spend money just to get pressure sensitivity back... |

You can just install the the CC6 trial and it'll fix the system libraries that are broken by default. Some people also suggest that installing the msvc 2010 redistributable fixes the issue with the n-trig wintab driver, but I haven't been able to confirm that because after installing the Photoshop trial, it becomes impossible to create a clean system situation (at least for me...)
