For my work flow, I'd prefer the ability to have a designated stored erase brush that I can access by toggling a keyboard key, just like how when you flip the pen to the eraser, it automatically switches to one you've selected for it.
I know you can switch a brush to eraser mode, and I know you can switch between two last used brushes, but these options are not what I'm after. Is there something built in that will achieve this? |

No, and solving this problem is more complicated than you'd imagine, because it basically boils down to making it possible to select presets with keyboard shortcuts. As you note, we've got a shortcut to switch between the current and last preset, and there are also shortcuts to cycle through the set of favourite presets, but we haven't yet found a good way to assign arbitrary shortcuts to arbitrary presets, even though it's discussed often. It was even a stretch goal in last year's kickstarter, but was voted out.

I see,
But there is the ability for Krita to remember what brush you set when you have flipped to the eraser. Is there no way to just set a key to access that very same assigned brush as the eraser does? Essentially the toggled key would just access the same functionality as flipping the pen to that side. Obviously that sounds simple enough, I understand some things aren't as simple as they sound in theory, I'm just curious as to how it's not. I have two different types of pen for my Cintiq, one is the classic pen and one is the regular. When I switch them, Krita remembers the brush I used last with that pen and switches to it. It seems like the same sort of deal as with just flipping the pen. Both work well. Somewhere that assignment is stored, is there not a way to just reuse that but point to it with a key? Ah, sorry for being persistent here. I'm just curious, as Krita is my ultimate favorite art program and I'd love to learn as much as possible about how it works and what I can do to get it working even better. |

Well, technically, it's possible to code that, too, of course. Whether it's a good idea to add that method, too, as well as the generic preset selection shortcut system that's been discussed for over a year is another problem.

Personally I think it would be great to have both. I imagine avoiding redundancy is the idea, and I understand time is limited and priorities must be decided.
I have minimal coding language knowledge but I'm a fast learner for systems logic and I'd love to take this sort of project on as a hobby. I found the page giving info on how to start into developing. I'll try to dedicate some time to learning the languages and coding that myself, as I'm definitely interested in getting Krita to work even better for my own endeavors and would love to share anything I come up with if it helps others too. Thanks for your time, it's greatly appreciated! |

It's been a while I hope it's ok to post on this thread again, but I wanted to mention I realized that there is an option that I think it was recently added? If not I just missed it.
"Eraser size switch" Located at the bottom of the tool settings window, it's a check box option. It allows the eraser mode brush to retain size alteration. This works as a solution for me, I don't know about others but this will do fine for my uses, so I will not be pursuing this further. I also believe that this solution successfully attains higher simplicity than the alternative approach. Thanks to who implemented it! ![]() |
