Despite what appimage.org claims: "Download an application, make it executable, and run! No need to install. No system libraries or system preferences are altered.", the alpha 1 appimage doesn't run in Kubuntu 15.04. >:(
Could you guys please advise?
Error message when running krita-2.99.89.appimage from command line:
Code: Select all
./krita-2.99.89.appimage: symbol lookup error: ./lib/libX11.so.6: undefined symbol: xcb_wait_for_reply64

This is the full output from the command line:

On the other hand, pre-alpha3 (krita3-prealpha3-de0d43d-x86_64.appimage) runs OK. Here are the first few lines for it when run from command line:

... and many other "aliases" lines, but the GUI program runs. By the way, I also have installed (and running fine) the stable release, from the dimula73 ppa for ubuntu vivid. Is there anything that I can do to get alpha1 running on Kubuntu 15.04?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks a lot for quick reply.

The Krita-3.0-Alpha-master-e5109c2-x86_64.AppImage runs and does not produce the "undefined symbol" any longer.

However, I opened a jpg image (single layer), painted a few strokes over it with a normal brush, but then whenever I selected the Clone brush as soon as I click on the image, I get a Segmentation fault and the GUI just dies immediately.

Here is the output of two such sessions:
Code: Select all
mysuser@myhost:/opt/krita3-pre$ ./Krita-3.0-Alpha-master-e5109c2-x86_64.AppImage

Edit: I forgot to say that I did not use any other command, configuration or tried to rotate the canvas. I just literally clicked on a brush and then clicked on the image to do strokes.
Thanks again for a very quick response, I appreciate so much the great work and support that you guys provide on this extraordinary application.

Yeah, that' s a crash in the clone tool. Could you report a bug at bugs.kde.org? Then we can notify you directly when we fix that bug. Regular painting should still work fine.

Oh, OK. I'll report the bug.
Anyway, this one seems to be known to you and unrelated to my original issue ("undefined symbol") , which then seems to have been resolved.

Thank you very much. I will keep trying the pre-releases of my favourite painting software (to be clear: krita) and of course keep using the stable version for production. Keep up the amazing work!

AppImage does absolutely nothing in Ubuntu 14.04. I've even downloaded the master file. I followed the instructions and it doesn't even blink or do anything.
What next?
Will Krita come out as usual from the repository as I don't want this nonsense

Have you tried opening it in the terminal yet, by opening a terminal in the folder you have this file and then type ./filename.appimage in it? If so, can you tell us what it is saying?

ppa is currently not working due libgsl being put in a different place, and regardless 3.0 will take a long time to land in the repositories anyway. Especially once we're going to use VC 1.2.

Edit: We don't actually control when/whether Krita shows up in the repositories, that's the repository manager's job. All we can do is tag source code and leave build instructions, which we do anyway.

Have you reflected on how uncivil a remark like this is?

Hey thomasl, the great thing about open source software is that there is nothing to prevent you fixing the problems and releasing an updated image back to the community. That way, you don't have to put up with anyone else's 'nonsense' and it allows you to actually contribute something. I would really like the updated image by tomorrow, is that good for you?

Sorry folks. No offence intended. I really appreciate the work that you all do. Pretty marvellous actually.
I did try running in terminal but with the same result. It just doesn't respond. Nothing, not even a bleep or an error screen.
I'll just wait for the release date then you won't have to put up with my nonsense.
All the best!

Update.
Downloaded the latest beta release today and ran it in Ubuntu 16.04 (64 bit) Unfortunately when I opened a new project it disappeared. Vanished.
Never mind, I will persevere. What I did see was good and it performed really well.
Looking great!
