Some g'mic filters, such as the film-emulation filters, crush initially when using Krita on windows.
The odd thing is that this problem was solved when i installed the g'mic plugin on gimp - installing g'mic on gimp actually fixed the crushes g'mic had on krita.

I think this issue should be addressed to make g'mic work properly right from the start.

Which version of Krita are you using? Krita 3.0 is built with a different compiler than Krita 2.9 which should have fixed all issues with G'Mic. I just checked with Krita 3.0 on Windows, and the film emulation filters don't crash.

It is also very unlikely that installing G'Mic for Gimp fixes anything Krita, since G'Mic is not a shared library, and Krita's G'Mic looks in a completely different place for its definitions.

I use Krita 3.0.

even though i encountered this issue some time ago, i'm pretty sure i used krita 3.0 when i encountered it because i tried to use the film emulation filters only after watching a certain stream which showed David Revoy using them on one of his paintings, and that stream was made after Krita 3.0 was made available.

I'm also certain installing G'mic in Gimp fixed the issue because right after installing it on gimp the film emulation filters went from not working to working.

The version of windows i use is 8.1

BTW, adding to that, im not the only one who encountered this problem!

I told another streamer on twitch who uses windows to try Krita, and this was after 3.0 was released.
The film emulations did not work for her initially too! (and well i told her that for me installing g'mic for gimp fixed g'mic in krita but she did not do it, at least not on stream)
