The os i use is ubuntu 14.04 ,and centos6 , though i have tested this across different 5 pc's with both amd and intel cpus, and graphics from amd to intel to nvidia and different distros.
I don't like the new appimage krita, it has no OS integration , comes with a really big font, kind of ugly, overall it looks out of place . But not only that , it seems to crash alot randomly when zooming in/out,panning,scrolling, or rotating canvas and while transforming, these frequent crashes make it almost unusable and frustrating to use. Krita 2.9 also crashed alot, but not nearly as much as this new appimage thing. in Centos6 my wacom tablet wont even work properly with it , it disconnects from the program everytime i lift the pen up as if there is no integration at all , I like the new krita3.0 especially the paint tool sai profile ,but Is there any hope for a regular ppa krita install and perhaps a more stable krita ? or will it be forever only available as an appimage which has no icon/font support? |

As far as I know the theme is hard coded within Krita regardless of using the AppImage or the 3.x release from the distros repositories, that has a reason behind it, and to avoid some crashing, the ability to follow the DE theme was disabled. If you like (and this would be also my next suggestion) you can build krita, and there you can actually switch on the theming for testing purposes, as I am doing right now, plus you will have the latest Krita features to play with, obviously not for production.
The fact that you have trouble with the 2.9 and Applimage alike, makes me think that something else is at fault, 2.9 was very solid as far as I can tell, and I haven't had problems trying the latest AppImage either, (but haven't tried extensively), There is no much man power to maintain the ppa, and AppImages serves a wider audience, thus it was chosen over the former. Also, probably a suggestion out of place, but you may consider a newer *buntu release, (or Distro) older pieces of software (graphic drivers, imput drivers, libraries etc.) not always combine well with newer programs.

I've been using 3.0 and 3.01 appimages for a while, and rigorously. It hasn't crashed yet. I've been working some 10-15 hours daily on it. I do miss my system color scheme though that I used in krita. I had designed it for working long hours. I would love to able to do that again.

If you copy the colorscheme (*.colors) to .local/share/krita/themes, it'll appear in the theme selection list.

We won't be able to serve Krita on Ubuntu 14.04 as a ppa because our dependancies are too new. ppa's as far as I know don't work on centOS, so for either problem a PPA wouldn't the solution. We have a krita lime ppa that has 3.0 on it as 3.0 testing.
However that also doesn't solve your issue of theming, as we had to hardcode the theme because all other temes glitched out pretty badly. Which is a pity, because I kinda like Breeze. We can't seem to find an official maintainer for these themes to tell them it's broken either... We've fixed some big bugs, amongst which a nasty memory leak, and that fix is in the 3.0.1 appimage, so it might be worth checking that out. |

Try color-schemes instead of themes thus your color should be on .local/share/krita/color-schemes/myfavorite.colors, (works for me)

I tried out the krita 3.0.1 , it seems to work best for me on kde opensuse leap Also the breeze themes look much better with kde5, though it still randomly closes , (2times so far )but hasn't crashed as much as the other krita. Is there anyway to diagnose and find out why it randomly closes so i can figure out the root cause of it ? I've tried the different opengl settings and even without opengl, i have plenty of ram and cpu, and the documents i make in krita arent even that big at all i dont have any problems with other art programs, i can play all sorts of game emulators on high settings , use web browsers, play hd videos etc all without crashing. |

I work in pc, 8 gigs RAM, i3 processor and an Nvidia Geforce 650TI 2 GB GPU. Well, krita kinda closed today randomly, and I was working with the transform mask. I was cloning a layer, applying transform mask on it, and was painting on the original layer with a smudge brushes. It was terribly slow with overlay on ( It's fine with overlay on smudge brushes off), and that's when krita closed. But that's the only case I've encountered and I really fiddle a lot! |
