Stylus doesn't work on my computer

Thu Jul 28, 2016 9:09 pm
Okay so I have a laptop with a touchscreen and I can draw on it with my stylus. Someone recommended this site to me because my old drawing program didn't work. Anyway, I try to use my stylus on this drawing program and it doesn't work! is there a setting to change that? I love drawing on my computer, but i can only draw good if I use my stylus. Please help! Thank you.
Sincerely,
A new user in need of assistance

It'd be helpful if you can also tell us what brand of laptop you have, and what model it is. Until then, you're leaving us to guess.

Normally, Krita will just immediately work with any stylus. If it doesn't, there's something wrong.

Maybe you can try updating your drivers?

Maybe see if the testing build of 3.0.1 helps: https://krita.org/en/item/krita-3-0-1-d ... nt-builds/

Maybe try Krita 2.9 from the download page: https://krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/

Okay, I understand what's going on now.

Normally, you'd use Krita and other graphics/drawing programs with a "digitizer" tablet, which has a pen that already transmits "i'm here" when you hold it above the tablet, and also sends "how strong am i being pressed against the tablet?" and "is my drawing tip or my eraser tip close to the tablet now?".

Your laptop only has a regular capacitative touchscreen, like the kind that's in phones.

Now here comes the difficult part: Many digitizer tablets also have a capacitative touchscreen built-in, which could sometimes cause glitches and conflicts.

For Krita 3.0, the whole code that handles Tablets of all kinds was re-written from scratch, and drawing via touch was left out.

Luckily, that means if you use Krita 2.9 (still available on the download page), it should work with your stylus!

I hope that helps!
