Problems on Surface Book

Sat Jul 30, 2016 6:18 am
Hello!

Recently, I purchased a Microsoft Surface Book so that I could draw and yet still have something for school.... eagerly I download Krita (x64) but I've had a few problems with it....I'm not sure if it's me or the software but here are a few of the issues I've had so far. Please, your assistance is much needed!

1. Pressure Sensitivity: Pressure sensitivity is really helpful when it comes to digital art, however, Krita isn't recognizing it. I've downloaded other programs just to check (Leonardo, and a few others I can't remember) and they all have pressure sensitivity. Krita is the only one that has been unsuccessful. Is this not a feature available on Surface Book or is there something I can do to fix this?

2. Lag: When I was checking out the pressure sensitivity on other programs, I also noticed that the alternative programs were very smooth and pretty much one to one with my movements. Krita, however, seems rough to me. There have been multiple times where I was drawing a curve on Krita, but due to lag, it came out as a straight line from the point at which I started at to the point I let go at....this is very inconvenient, especially when I'm trying to draw hair or facial curves. Also, I tend to write very fast, and writing on Krita has proven to be a challenge too. It captures the general shape of every letter rather than every detail I wrote out....this has only happened to me on Krita.

3. Moving Layers: Sometimes when I'm moving layers, Krita will glitch out on me and freeze. It hasn't happened recently but it did occur a few times when I was just starting off with the program.

4. Runtime Errors: There are times that when I close Krita, this random runtime error notification will appear. What is this? Why does it happen?

5. Symmetry tool and Centering: There aren't any problems with the symmetry tool, I'm just wondering if there's a way to center it on the page without me having to manually move it -approximately- there. Same goes for anything I've drawn. I tend to draw off center, so my biggest concern is how I can get it exactly on the center and not have to move it manually.

Other than these problems, Krita is functioning just fine.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

1. https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Microso ... _and_NTrig
2. Will be better when you get the pen working as a pen. On my entry-level Surface Pro 3, everything is fine, and the book is supposed to be much faster (though not available where I live)
3. Might be a bug, might be fixed in the development builds we announced here https://krita.org/en/item/krita-3-0-1-d ... nt-builds/
4. Known bug, it only happens when closing Krita anyway, but we're trying to fix it.

Ah, thank you so much! That was super helpful! I just have one other question...What do you mean by getting the pen to work as a pen?

If using the pen shows pressure sensitivity, painting should be smoother.

So, these drivers are for Surface Pro but also work on the Surface Book?

Addendum ::
I downloaded [ SurfacePro4_Win10_15063_1701801_0.msi ] but the OS aborted the install since it says it didn't match the current OS. Thoughts?
