Hello! I'm a complete Krita n00b! I couldn't find information about this anywhere. (I searched for hours!) What I would like is this: If I press E to switch to the eraser, it switches to the tool I last selected for the eraser, not use my current brush tool.
And on a similar note, is there a way to make it so when I switch to the eraser, it remembers what brush size I last used for the eraser, instead of using my brush size for painting? Thanks!! ^_^ |

currently the eraser is not tied to your brush. it allows you to eraser with many tools, not just one. It should already work like you describe.
For the eraser size, there is a property in the brush editor near the bottom called "eraser switch size". if that is on, your eraser size will be remembered when you go between painting and erasing. |

Maybe you're misunderstanding me. Here's the feature I'm talking about: "The advantage of this toggle is that the eraser will inherit many of the brush properties. The eraser will be the same size as your current brush and will keep the same tip shape. This can make erasing feel more natural since it is a variation of your brush." - Digital Painting with Krita 2.9, p. 32 (emphasis added) While I could see wanting this feature some of the time, there are certainly times when I don't want this. For instance, if I'm sketching, I'd like my brush to be set to, say, Basic_tip_default, but I'd like my eraser to be Eraser_circle. Here are my steps: - I set it to Basic_tip_default and do some painting. - I hit E. I'm now on erase mode, and it erases with Basic_tip_default. - I go to "edit brush settings" -> Eraser_circle. It puts me back into brush mode, but now my brush is set to Eraser_circle. (And it erases, even though erase mode is off.) - I hit E to switch to erase mode, and I'm still using Eraser_circle. - I switch back to brush mode, and I'm obviously still using Eraser_circle. I then switch to Basic_tip_default. Clearly this is a cumbersome method. Pressing the "E" key really doesn't do me any good in this scenario; I just have to keep clicking on "edit brush settings" to switch between brush and eraser. What I would like is to instead handle the whole switching process by pressing E, and I assume there's some way to do this.
Thanks, that worked! |

If you want to switch between brush presets and eraser presets fast, the brush editor isn't very convenient. Currently with Krita the fastest ways I have seen are the following:
1. Show the brush presets docker and switch brushes that way. You can ignore the eraser toggle button since you are completely switching presets. 2. Another variation is you could assign your favorite brushes and erasers to a tag. You can use the brush presets docker or the pop up palette to change between different presets. The brush settings window is designed for editing a current preset, so it is pretty slow if you are using that to switch to different types of brushes. There currently isn't an eraser tool that is assigned to an eraser preset. In that sense there is no such thing as an eraser tool in krita. That button really just changes the blending mode to "erase". We have plans to rethink the eraser, but right now that is the current situation. Hopefully that helps. |

There is a trick, with which you can switch to the eraser ( the shape and size you want) and whatever brush you are currently painting. The keyboard shortcut / switches between two brushes, the current brush you are painting with and the last brush that was active. And it remembers the modes of brushes ( normal, erase etc) and the size of those brushes too! What I do is, before I start painting with a brush, I select the brush i want for the eraser first, in it's desired modifications, and then I select the brush I would use to paint with. And with the shortcut /, I can switch between the two, without any kind of lag, and whatever modifications you do to the brushes, it remembers! The catch is, only TWO brushes. If there was a way to expand this feature so to say, like if I select five brushes in a row and with a shortcut I could switch between them while retaining their modified states, it would be so cool!

Well, you can turn on 'remember tweaks to presets' under f5 to keep brush-tweaks remembered. We also have a brush preset-history docker, and the pop-up palette can be filled per tag, though this latter is a bit fiddly due tag-assignment bugs.

The last time i used "eraser switch size" there was a certain lag when switching between the brush and the eraser. I'm not sure if it's the same now because I find the / key very handy for that, and use it exclusively since. And there is no lag at all. Depends a lot on our work-flows i guess.
