Familiar intro; I'm not an experienced Linux user, etc...
I just cannot get my Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 to work with linux. I have tried lots of examples on fora, howto's, linuxwacom project... Nowhere can I find a clear example with this model except for this one ( http://expiredpopsicle.com/2015/10/09/C ... Linux.html ), wich is way too difficut to decipher for me. So before asking what to do I'd like to pose the following question; Has anyone ever had or heard of a working combination of this specific wacom tablet (DTH-W1310E) an any linux distro? If so i would be glad to continue my odissee to find the answers myself, but for now i'm stuck. Thanks |

Okay, I am not a driver expert, but here's the deal with tablets on linux:
Linux Wacom project deals with making drivers for all wacom brand models. Digimend deals with all other tablets. Chances are is that the Linux Wacom project doesn't support the companion 2 yet. According to the link you gave it does. However, it says 'recently submitted patches to the Linux Kernel'. This means that the support for the companion 2 isn't in the Linux Kernel in october 2015. The tricky part is first figuring out whether the patches ever got accepted. If so, then all you need to do is find a distro with the most up to date Linux Kernel. This is typically a rolling release distro like Arch. If it isn't, or you want to use a distro that doesn't have that kernel yet, then you will need to compile the driver yourself. Compiling isn't difficult, but it's fiddly. So I will annoy someone more experienced in compiling the linux wacom drivers to see if they have good instructions for it(if you yourself haven't found one already). The companion 2 patches seem to be merged into the main linux wacom driver on github already, so that's the one you need to build then. I can't tell if it's in any releases yet or in the kernels for that matter. |

So...
After closing the browser window in which i posted the question, an update for ubuntu presented itself on his old acer aspire that i use for testing. It had been a while since i used it, but now it ran for two days with an active connection so i'm not shure if this is a stroke of luck or whatever, but... NOW IT WORKS! I could feel really stupid for waiting six months to post this and having the solution thrown in my hands after i finally do. But for now i will joyfully spend hours testing awesome krita in its natural biome. So thanks for the reply, but for now my problem is solved. In a weird way. But hey! i will keep an eye on this post, because i somehow hope to have other people playing around wit the CC2. And now for some long anticipated fun with digital art! Thanks again |

Awesome! Good to know the companion 2's support is in the latest kernels then :3

Ok well in Ubuntu with plasma, my tablet is not detected. I wanted kubuntu especially for its great tablet settings gui. Will it recognise the tablet if I put the right libwacom file in an /xorg.conf file?
Coz now i'm just really messing around until I get to fully use my device. Like a kid poking around with a screwdriver in a clock to make it work... |

In the latest kubuntu i get full use of the device, but still it is missing from KCM, it is however detected as gamepad...after running in circles trying to configure it with linuxwacom I think its not even necessary... Bug?

I don't want to be so rude as to just bump the question, but I am I asking too much? I' m completely stuck in a loop, going from package installs to error messages, trying other distro's, command lines that don't do what is told they would do.. I tried an older version of mint kde, anything, I've tried updating, xsetwacom, manuals that are way too hard for me to understand.. . Can anyone please suggest a starting point? I would rather contribute myself but as it is I'm still at the bottom stair.
Many thanks |

The KDE wacom kcm is unmaintained. The Gnome tablet settings plugin is unmaintained. I haven't got time to investigate xsetwacom and all that stuff, nor to pick up maintenance of the tablet kcm. At this point, and I'm the Krita maintainer, I reboot to windows to use my cintiq hybrid companion myself.

Well I have no reason to complain about free stuff that is being thrown in my hands. I will content with what I have, resisting the temptation to pursue maximum awesomeness, and wait patiently.
But Boudewijn, shurely your windows version is not performing better then linux? Strange.. Oh well, you hve work to do thanks anyhow |

Well, the windows wacom utility can calibrate the cintiq, on Linux the cursor is half a centimeter off.
(It's not so bad, at least this forces me to see Krita now and then the way 90% of users use it.) |

How do you mean? I get to calibrate it in ubuntu, works fine, but then there's the problem that button mapping is giving continuous input and is not able to map alt, ctrl, or shift..
by the way: 90% ?!?!?! :O |

Breakthrough!
Manjaro KDE supports Krita's pinch-pan-zoom gestures, wich is realy cool. Runs really fast too (in my case). I also got the kcm tablet gui up and it even recognised my tablet. I can't tell which drivers were installed / removed because I was just testing random combinations of the octopi, yaourt, and AUR repository's. Based on this advice from the manjaro forum: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/wacom-cinti ... andronikos Then i messed everything up. I'm pretty certain that whatever makes the kcm setting work, breaks the gesture functionality. Its either one or the other, but I know it must be possible to have them both working cause i saw it. Therahedwig, may I suggest annoying that friend off yours with the topic? Hoping this is usefull information, or that it might raise some interest. |

I've found it! Xsetwacom needs to make xf86-input-wacom turn off gestures so it passes them on to X
