I was having trouble getting previews of the .kra file extension to work under other top linux distros with kde desktop and never did get it to work. Then I read somewhere on docs krita installation that since april 2016 that dolphin would be able to show .ora and .kra files by default ,so i figured i couldn't go wrong by using the latest kubuntu16.04 , so i install it today and still have the same problems that i had with other linux distros not being able to see .kra previes in dolphin , in dolphin preview settings there still isn't a option to allow thumbnail previews for krita documents, yes i even installed kdegraphics-thumbnailers kio-extras , maybe kubuntu was released before april 2016 ?
i dont know what else to do at this point , if it helps, my kubuntu 16.04 came with Dolphin 15.12.3, and kde5 5.5.5, what do i have to do to get previews for kra files ?? |

Install KDE Applications 16.04 (kio-extras in particular, that contains the .kra thumbnailer which is new in 16.04). No idea how you can do that in Kubuntu 16.04 though. Another option, install calligra (2.9, which comes with a .kra thumbnailer for KDE4) and use Konqueror or dolphin4, which are still KDE4 based. |

oh this didnt help ,i already had kio-extras installed, krita , and all the other thumbnails ,also i did it all with synaptic package manager ,before i made a post here. i was told on kdeorg.bugs that ubuntu kio-extras is too old , and that the thumbnailer for ora/kra files was added 7 months ago , and i read on kritadocs installation that dolphin is able to view kra files by default since april 2016 , this is the reply i got from kdebug.org "The thumbnailer for kra/ora images was added 7 months ago: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/126674/ . Ubuntu kio-extras is tool old: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywo ... ection=all . More from the KDE Forums: Dolphin preview for .Kra .Ora and .Psd files - viewtopic.php?f=223&t=129633 " but my question is why cant i see my krita/ora/psd files in dolphin in kubuntu 16.04 , what am i doing wrong ? |

As I wrote, you need kio-extras in version 16.04.0 or newer. I have no idea what Ubuntu offers. The thumbnailer was added 7 months ago, yes, but there was no release before April, i.e. 16.04.0. So, yes, dolphin (the KF5 based version at least) is indeed able to view .kra files since April 2016. The KDE4 version is able to since years though, if you have calligra (the KDE4 version, i.e. 2.x) installed.
What version of kio-extra do you have installed? This is (normally) *not* identical to the (K)Ubuntu version. I.e. that you have KUbuntu 16.04 installed, doesn't mean that you also have KDE Applications 16.04. Actually rather not, because I think (K)Ubuntu 16.04 was released *before* KDE Applications 16.04.0. If it's 15.12.3 or lower, it cannot work as it doesn't have the .kra thumbnailer yet. You may be able to update via some PPA in that case, but I don't use Ubuntu and cannot help with that. |

my fresh install of kubuntu 16.04 has the 15.12.3, and my kio-extras is 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 so i guess the kubuntu16.04 is way too old which is why i cant see my krita documents by default, all of this stuff is too technical for me to understand, im an artist . can you tell me which linux distro with kde i could use that shows kra thumbnails in dolphin ? i read that the windows version krita has a shell extension that shows previews, but i can't afford windows they told me i wasnt eligible for windows xp to windows 10 upgrade and that it would cost 85$ , im coming from windows xp after using paint tool sai for many years. but i just want a kde distro thats easy and shows previews of krita documents without any hassle , do you know of any ? |

Yes. Actually not "way too old", just a little bit too old.
Probably anyone, in its next release... I'm not sure which current ones are new enough. A rolling release would have it of course, but that might give you other problems... (due to the constant changes/updates I'd rather consider them only to be useful/suited for a bit more experienced Linux users) Though as indicated, it may be possible to update in any half-current distro via additional repos/PPAs. For (K)Ubuntu I found this: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+arc ... plications Though it will probably enter Backports soon too, and/or even be released as standard update (no idea, as I don't know anything about Kubuntu). |

that ppa thing worked, it came with a whole lot of updates and i finally got what i wanted which is a kde5 desktop that shows all my several 100's of .kra files in Dolphin and with krita 3.0 Installed (not the krita appimage version which i despise), so now my life is complete . but i really hope that all other linux distros will keep up and start porting the new version dolphin16.0xx and plasma5.7 stuffs to their new releases by default already and stop using the old. it really confused me for some weeks and drove me insane |
