Hi Guys,
I have been using krita for drawing for a few months now. I am currently working out an art style for a project that might be a mix/blend between vector and hand drawing/painting. During the design/sketching, I wondered if there was a way to link artworks across files - to allow for a modular way to create the artwork. For example, in Blender you can do this with 3D models. You would have a master file that would be your scene layout. But each 3d model/object would have its own file. You would then import/link/append the 3d model into the master file. The advantage to this is that it helps keep things organised but also allows you to edit/make changes in the 3d model file and have all its references update automatically. In krita, this could be looked at as designing a game level where you have different elements such as houses, GUI, items etc. But each of those elements have their own files that link into the level files. This would mean that you could update the artwork elements and their changes would update across all the different level designs. This is probably the most poweful/evident with scenery artwork - updating one tree or house and having all its references updating throughout the levels. I wonder if krita had a similar function for development. I know there is the stamp tool, but I don't think updating the stamp updates the images already placed by it? Does it? |

There are the file layers -- that's the closest you can get.

For the "have multiple references of a thing update at the same time" you can check out this video wolthera made for 2.9.3 in may 2015, it could be a nice inspiration:

Thanks guys for the awesome suggestions and advice.
I looked up each suggestion and I think a combination of the clone layers and file layers will work awesome with what I am trying to accomplish. Excited now to go try these tools out. Thanks again guys. |
