I noticed it just yesterday, and I'm not sure how long it has been like that. But i'm pretty sure if krita took around 4gb memory on start, I would've noticed as i regularly check system monitor. Has something changed or have I messed up something? I haven't changed any settings though. My system has 8 GB RAM, and Nvidia 650 ti GPU. It doesn't lag but I think 4GB at start is too high, and that's without any file opened. I'm sure I've messed something up as I don't see any such problems posted here. So, usual suspects?

Thanks.

That sounds weird -- unless you have a crazy amount of patterns, gradients, brushes and brush tips installed. Different operating systems, and you didn't mention yours, have different ways of reporting memory usage, and all of them are unreliable, but this is an order of magnitude beyond what I would expect. On this Linux laptop with 4GB of memory, Krita without any image loaded takes about 200M of memory, at the roughest of estimates:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
14457 boud 20 0 1047148 217424 85388 S 0,0 5,5 0:04.74 krita

I do have quite a lot of brushtips, though i don't use that many. Maybe it's time I get rid of all the junk, but those brushes has been like that for a long time now, and I never noticed anything like that. I don't have any extra gradients, patterns or such other than what krita comes with. My OS is PCLinuxOS kde, and have been running it for around 2 years now. I didn't understand what you meant by reporting memory usage, like what it says in the system monitor? I checked it in Ksysguard and also through command line, through top command. I will report after cleaning up a bit, I do have a quite a lot of brush tips, and many of huge sizes.

Yep, brushes were causing that. I cleaned almost 1.5 gigs of brushes inside brush folder! and now krita is under 400 mb. Thanks for the heads up, never noticed it till now, but probably it was like that for a long time, maybe since when i started playing with krita brushes and engines few years ago, probably played too much it seems.

Btw, how much would you suggest I keep the internal pool amount? In fact i have no idea how substantial its effects are. Right now I have it at 230 mb.
