Every time i save a project with Krita, besides the file NAME.KRA, Krita always creates also a file NAME.KRA~.
What is this file for? Is it needed for Krita to open normal kra files? If not can i delete it ? |

It's a backup file. Krita saves to a temporary file. The existing file is renamed to bla.kra~, then the temporary file is renamed to bla.kra. You can disable that in the settings, but won't if you value the ability to recover from a potentially disastrous save, like you press the Del key when your ink layer is active, are called away, come back, have forgotten about it, close krita, press "Yes" to save -- and your ink layer is gone forever. With the bla.kra~ file you can rename it to bla-previous.kra and at least get your last version back.

I see, That is great, Another backup is always a good thing. I thought it was something to do with autosave file, but then i found that autosave is different file. Does the autosave file dissapear everytime i manually save the project after autosave has been done ? I ask because i sometimes i see autosave file and sometimes i dont have any (though Krita autosave evey 15 minutes).

Krita removes the autosave file when you close the image. It stays around when Krita ends a bit more abruptly.

Understood, thank you for quick answer. Though Krita has some flaws and is not optimalized well yet, It is a great software you are providing here, thank you

Hi Rafal_86
If I may ask, can you state which optimisations are required, so that developers will know what is lagging in krita. The feedback is welcome and it may help in stabilising future versions ![]() |

Hey kamathraghavendra I think i have already mentioned them in other threads, but First and foremost Layer styles for me are not usable. I am working on big printing projects (A4 300dpi is the smallest i work with). Adding at least one option from Layers style window (like shadow, or glow, or stroke etc.) makes that whole layer render super slow. Sometimes to the extend that it is impossible to work. Moving, resizing layers with styles on takes much time and is just not pleasent at all to work with. Second most severe is just the bigger the project gets the slower render becomes, and painting with big size brushes on zoom out image is laggy. Last one that i can think of now is Select opaque, and select overall. If i select more complex and big structures it shows selection good, but when i zoom out the selection outlie is "jumping" over the image and creates dashes and lines everywhere making image hard to read. It still preserve original selection i want, it is the visual effect of selection that is broken. |
