I've just started with Krita and have a two main questions for anyone who has time to respond:
1) I installed 2.9.7 as part of the Calligra suite in Linux MInt 18.1 and I note that this is the version in the 'Lime' PPA. I also tried the Appimage version which is version 3.1.1 and I noted that they can co-exist since they have separate configuration files in my home folder. Is it the case that Appimages will be the future for Krita and that the PPA will not be updated to the most recent version? I have no problem using either and am just wondering which will be supported. 2) Krita 3.1.1 has a problem with my mouse, or seems to. I have an old Wacom Graphire 2 graphics pad with pen and mouse. I've used it for years in GIMP and also as a general purpose mouse for everything. In Krita 2.9.7, I can paint with the mouse but without any pressure sensitivity of course. (I realise that the mouse is not a sensible tool for painting if you have a pen.) I can also use the mouse scroll wheel to scroll through the collection of brush presets. In Krita 3.1.1, the mouse will not draw except for the 'Special' brushes and the stamps. Also, the scroll wheel will not cause the collection of brush presets to move if I have the cursor inside the brush presets window/dock. I have to place the cursor on the right-side scroll bar then grab-drag it up/down. I've noticed that a document needs to be open/active for many things to work and I did have an active and drawable document on screen when I observed the behaviour I've described. However.... If I use an 'ordinary' usb mouse then there is no problem with painting or scrolling with it in Krita 3.1.1. So... It seems that Krita 3.1.1 Appimage has a problem with the old Wacom graphics pad mouse.? I've ordered an Intuos 4 Small Pen and Touch Pad and will see how that works out when it arrives. |

1. There's a new lime PPA, but you will not be able to use it on distros based on Ubuntu 16.04 due dependancy issues.
https://launchpad.net/~kritalime/+archive/ubuntu/ppa The old lime ppa is already not updated. For Ubuntu 16.04 based distros you can use either the Snap package or the appimage. 2. Which brushes are you talking about? Maybe the wacom mouse thing reports 0 pressure. In that case, you can go to settings->toolbars to configure the toolbar. Try to search for a pressure sensitivity toggle and add that to the tool bar. That will allow you to force pressure to be 100 at all times. We moved to QT5 when we went to Krita 3.0. So very likely QT is receiving different events from your tablet. |

Thank you for the rapid reply Thera.
1) I'll use the Appimage from now on, after your explanation. 2) The brushes I was talking about are called 'Special-dyna_dots', 'Special_FuzzyColour' and 'Special-particles_crazy'. I suspect that like some stamps, they have no pressure variation and so can work with the mouse. As you suggested, I found and put 'Pressure usage (small button)' onto the main toolbar. It actually appears grouped with the file buttons so I had to make sure that the File toolbar was shown with Settings -> Toolbars Shown. This does give mouse painting ability for the old Wacom mouse if I activate it. It doesn't give scrolling inside a dock window though. Nevermind; if I was desperate for full mouse functionality then I'd plug in my 'ordinary' usb mouse. I'll make a further post if I have any problems with the Intuos 4 Pen and Touch tablet, when it arrives. Once again, thank you for your rapid and very useful reply. |
