I use Krita 3.0.1 (x64) and when I close an illustration I'm working on I get an error message .
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library .. The application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way." Then the whole program closes. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Should I be running the 32 bit version? I noticed a newer version is up (3.1.1) would this be better in 32 or 64 bit? I use Win 10 as my OS. Thanks |

Yes, by all means do update. When you do, please use the portable zip file plus the debug zip and if the crash occurs again, report a bug with the crash report. See https://docs.krita.org/Dr._Mingw_debugger

Thank you ... will I need to un-install the previous version ? It was installed from an .exe file.
Also, the 3.0.1 Krita was the 64 bit version, should I go to the 32 bit version instead ? |

No, that's not needed; the portable version can co-exist with an installed version without interference. And the 64 bits version should be fine; if your win 10 were 32 bits, that would be strange in the first place, and in the second place, you wouldn't even have been able to start the 64 bits version.

" ... you wouldn't even have been able to start the 64 bits version ... " I did not know that. And I thought I was savvy enough on the computer. I guess it shows how complex it is. However, I believe I do have 32 bit programs running under X86 (??)
Also, why use the .zip over the .exe ? Does the zip load in the same manner as the exe or does it build it's own directory that I then copy to my C drive? Thank you very much for your direction. |

You need to add the debug symbols in the right place -- and unless you do that as administrastor, that's hard with something installed to Program Files. Just download the two zip files, open the krita zip in explorer, drag to your desktop, and then open the debug zip, and drag the contents inside the new krita folder.
Then double-click the krita link or bin\krita.exe, and reproduce the crash. This won't interfere with your installed Krita, but they will use the same settings. Btw -- with the zip version you can easily have different versions on your system,t too. |

Hmmm ... I was kinda hoping that I could just download a new version and have the problem solved. As I understand, you want me to test the new version for bugs. The problem only happens once in a while and only when I close a file I've been working on. The OS response is that the program has stopped responding and then the error box comes up. After that I have to close the program. Most of the time it happens when I try to close from the "X" in the tab. If I close from "File - Close" it rarely happens.

Well, chances are the new version doesn't have the bug. But if it has, and and you use it and you've got the debug symbols installed, you'll have a crash log that might let me fix the bug. Sounds like a fair deal to me -- you spend some effort, I spend some effort, together we make Krita better?

OK .. sounds good, but, can I load the .exe file instead? If I do will I have to uninstall the older (3.0.1) version?
Thanks for your patience |

No, the .exe installer overwrites your existing installation. Use the zip files, please.
