I find Krita very intuitive for the most part, but one thing I really struggle to get my head around is how the predefined brush tips are meant to work.
I know how to get to them and how to select from the different types of tip, but I'm a little confused as to their exact purpose. I also don't understand why they aren't grouped with the brush types for easy access. If I want a tip that gives me grass, I have to open up the menu and select it, but then if I change my brush type to quickly fix something I notice, I've then lost my 'grass' tip and have to open up the tips menu again to select it all over again. Why can't the predefined tips just be in the same menu as the docked brushes? |

I think you want to turn on 'save tweaks to presets'. That will store tiny tweaks liek the predfined brush-tip change.
Brush types, or brush presets as we call them, or paint operation presets as they are called in the code, represent how the brush engine changes the selected brush-tip based on tablet input or length. This means that the brush mask or brush-tip is only a part of everything that goes into the stroke. We separated them so that it's easier to add new brush-tips by just importing a png for example. Photoshop just merges the whole thing, and we think that makes it difficult to add new brush tips. |

Thank you, TheraHedwig, but could you explain a little more want turning on 'save tweaks to presets' does?
When you say it will 'store tiny tweaks like the predefined brush-tip change' how does this manifest itself in terms of how it helps me? I'll take this opportunity to also point out that I'm not using a tablet/pen, just a mouse. Let's say I turn this setting on and during a piece I'm working on I go to the predefined tips menu and select a 'foliage' tip. I then change my brush to something else, how will this new setting allow me to quickly switch back to my 'foliage' tip? |
