Doest this gradient works for you all? I have been trying it out several times on diferent projects but it never worked flawlessly. The problem is that the gradient gets messy in some places. Almost like it recognizes some places as selcted or as edge of the canvas.
To better explain what i mean i attached a file. ![]() Basicly what i do is make a selection and then choose shaped gradient and fill. Sometimes i get lucky and shaped gradient works fine when i check the REVERSE option, but not always.

Hmm, no respone :/ I assume this tool work as intended for developers. It does for simple shapes, but not for more complicated like the one above. Should i create a bug in bugtracking system for that one ?

Looks like it works for me: http://imgur.com/a/Ai5fR . (You also didn't add an image to you post, so we couldn't see what you meant.)

Huh... sorry about that. I did add an image in [img] tag and i see it on my post above. You don't? That is strange.
How about if i just pase the link to it. https://www.cartographersguild.com/atta ... 1488269192 |

Ok, how about this link on Imgur.

Ah, I see now. I guess the algorithm only was tested with a selection that contains a single area, not a discontinuous selection. Please make a bug report, and it would be helpful to attach this image to that report as well. For now it would probably be best to fill the left sea and the right separately?

Sent, thank your for respone as always.
Filling left and right side may work, i havent tried that yet, but sometimes it palces gradient in several different spots, so for now i just dont use this gradient, unless it actually works for entire selection properly. It would be very handy if it does work for such complex selections though. Cheers |

Hey Rafal_86, maybe a workaround to get this glowy gradient around your map/island shape is to use "Layer Style".
On a layer ( or the group ) with the shape of your island; right-click > Layer Style , and setup "Outer Glow" to get a gradient glow around your shape. You can also do the reverse; apply it on a layer/group with the sea ; and use the "Inner Glow". |

Hey Deevad, thank you for suggestion. Yes, Layer Styles are one of the best workaround. This is even better solution for my workflow. Unfortunately Krita Layer styles seems to work as vectors? I dont know exactly, but layer styles make Krita render image so so so slow i have sometimes wait up to 20 seconds to change some effects or just move some things on canvas. I dont know why things work so slow with layer styles, but at this rate i tent to avoid them as much as possible. That is why i discovered Shaped gradient and thought this would be great workaround for layer styles' outer/inner glow. I hope layer styles can be rewrite somehow in future. I have no problem using them in Photoshop or new Affinity Photo. Cheers. |

Ha sure, Layer Style have really big issue with performance and drawing time on canvas. ( Demo here: https://youtu.be/A7olKdIEtNQ?t=52m15s ).
Using 'Move Tool' with them is a serious trap and can end up being a painful experience in the software. Move Tool will try to draw every frame for all pixel position, Layer Style will try to redraw each frame; the result is really bad and can trap user into a 2 to 3min wait time (praying for no crash) only for moving a layer to the right or left... Transform Tool ( Ctrl+T ) to move them is a better choice ( workaround? ) . If you use Layer Style on layers inside a group, you'll suffer only of the big lag during the creation time : Groups are pretty good to cache this type of effect and graphic data. But I totally understand the choice to avoid them: it's not rare when I discuss with other Krita users to see they don't want to rely on Layer Style because of performances... Here when I use them, I try to go minimal ( a single 'stroke' or drop shadow ) ; or bake to raster the effect after creation ( merging them down over an empty layer ). Good luck! |

Hi Rafal_86 and Deevad
A bit non intuitive workaround that i have is to use Gaussian blur. Select the layer for which you want to give the outer glow or shadow or shaped gradient. Select opaque pixels by doing select opaque. Then insert a new layer beneath it and fill it with the color you want for the glow. Now deselect add a Gaussian blur filter mask on this new layer. I know this is a bit hacky and very un-intuitive but I just wanted to state a possibility ![]() |

Thanks kamathraghavendra.
I will try that as well next time and see how it will work. I guess i will have to widen the selection before i fill it. otherwise the "glow" will be very thin. |
