How to install Animate With Krita

Fri Apr 14, 2017 6:31 am
Recently bought the program but there's nothing that tells me how to actually use it. I use a Mac OSX. After downloading the zip file all that showed up was a AnimWithKrita folder. I tried "opening with app" except that only led me to download something called Gumroad on Itunes that doesn't open anything. I already have the Krita app downloaded. I can't find any obvious ways of how to use the Animate With Krita so if anyone knows then I'd be very much appreciative if someone could help out.

It isn't an application that you install, it's a set of tutorial videos in folder. The folder contains a html menu file that you can open with firefox or another browser. You can also play the chapters independently with an application like vlc.

Thanks for the info!
Now do you know about exporting on a mac? I followed the instructions on "https://docs.krita.org/Render_Animation" the best I could, but when it comes to the actually exporting / rendering it never seems to get anywhere. If trying to convert into a gif, after the frames are exported, a tab pops up showing "fetching palette" but it never seems to get past 0%, then I end up with all these .png files and a weird gif.log thing. If I try to convert into a mpeg-4, it exports the frames and then pops up with "encoding" which also never seems to get past 0%. For an animation of 26 frames, do you know how long should it take? I just want to be able to upload videos on deviantart or on video software like youtube or facebook and I don't know how, some advice would really help.

Can you try to open the log file with a text editor and paste the contents here? It should say what went wrong.

I don't know what a log file is or how to access a text editor. If you could tell me that would be great, I'm not the most technical person.

Notepad is window's most basic text editor. There are also other text-editors, called wordprocessors, such as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer, but they are often too complicated for log and txt files.

Here's instructions on how to find notepad on windows 10: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 103eb1f579

I mentioned in my first post that I use a Mac OSX, I don't have a windows device. I do have Microsoft Word but I don't know how to use that as a text-editor.

Ah, sorry, most people who don't know anything about computers are on windows.

Anyway, on OS X is is apparantly called 'TextEdit' and it is under applications. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/20 ... 0&tstart=0

BTW, if TextEdit doesn't allow you to select the file from the open dialog, you should be able to open it by drag-and-dropping the file into TextEdit from the folder it's in.

Whilst I found Tex Edit, I still don't really know how to use it. I don't know what "open dialog" is and i'm not sure if I did this part right but I dragged and dropped the animation.kra file into Text Edit but that didn't really do anything.

However before this goes any further I just want to mention a few things.
If I wanted to upload my animation onto things like youtube or DA, what file should I use (i.e. png, mpeg-4 etc)? And how long should an animation of 26 frames take to export/render, is it more than an hour? And in the text editor, what would the problem even look like if there is one since i've never used Tex Editor before and I don't now what I'm looking for.

Terribly sorry for asking so much but I'd really like to pursue animation further.

I am afraid that I am getting to the point that I need to request you to find someone a little more knowledgeable about computer terminology, because I am unable to find simpler ways to explain what I need you to do. Usually, these terms(open dialog) are taught in real life when showing someone how to use a computer, and I don't think it is possible for me to explain these terms by text alone, especially as I do not own an apple device myself, and cannot explain where the options that I need you to look at are located exactly. Usually, I can rely on someone to interpret the terms and find the correct commands by themselves, it seems you still need to practice more before that is possible, so hence my suggestion to go to an expert.

So, I suggest you find someone who is experienced enough to interpret my instructions and do the following:

1. Find the .log file in the same directory as that the frames were exported to.
2. Open this file in TexEdit or a similar program.
3. Copy paste the contents to a post on this forum. (preferably in a quote block, but I am fine with the contents being in a separate paragraph)

Export for 26 frames to mpeg-4 should take less than a minute and youtube will understand this just fine, but if I cannot see what the log file says, I cannot help you with your export problem.

I found the log file (is .log the dialogue maybe?) but when I tried to Open With Text Edit, I just get a blank TextEdit window with the title log_encode.log and that's it. Opening the log file by itself also opens something up called Console which as System Log Queries, Diagnostic and Usage Information and Files which might be what you're talking about except I can't pinpoint the stuff to do with my animation since all of it seems to relate to everything i've done on my laptop. When trying to render my animation, it exports just fine but then it starts an Encoding process after the exporting which is what seems to take too long for such a short animation.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but these are the only things I could find that had any relation to Krita, whilst trying to render, in the log file. Most of it though seems to be when I had to force quit the application.
