Lost menu bar

Tue Apr 25, 2017 1:41 pm
I've downloaded Krita (several times now!) in an attempt to be able to see the horizontal menu bar (runs from File to Help) on the Krita screen, but I've had no success. It seems to be concealed under an Apple style menu bar that runs across the top of the screen, though this seems to have what I can only describe as 'Krita associations'.

I'm using an Apple computer 10.12.4 which I'm not especially familiar with. I have a WACOM Intuos Art tablet (with a Corel Painter 5 which proved unusable, hence the decision to load Krita).

The Apple insists that I clear the Security settings before I can load Krita each time. I understand that when clicking to open Krita a reset can be made by holding CTL+ALT+Shift but - guess what - it doesn't work for me. And with no menu bar the Workspaces button isn't visible...

So I'm hoping that after a week of pure frustration and teeth marks all over my tablet someone can tell me what to do. Please! :(

Look... It's no use downloading exactly the same set of bytes multiple times. That won't fix any problems you. On OSX, Krita's menu is shown in the top menubar of OSX, like any other application. You could try to reset Krita's configuration to see whether you accidentally hid the menubar: remove ~/Library/Preferences/org.krita.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/kritarc .

Many thanks Boudewijn. I assume I need to go to Settings to do this but all I can find is Configure Toolbar, which doesn't take me any further. Sorry to be so dumb, but can you tell me how I go about finding the right place to check.

Also I've tried to search on the computer but can find no reference to a file named Kritar, as mentioned in the Krita manual, though again, I'm not sure I'm searching in the right place..

Use finder or terminal to go to the Library/Preferences/ folder in your home directory -- that's where you will find those files.

Note that is is "kritarc" _not_ "kritar"

Thanks again, but I've searched for this Preferences file without success, finally getting help from Apple support to ensure I'm searching correctly. Even with their help it was not found. If it's not there I can only assume it didn't load correctly.

So I'm resigned now to having to forget Krita and try something else which I hope will work, though I know it won't be so good. Interestingly, Apple suggested I bin the Krita program and try reloading it, but I said I'd already tried that too.

Apple support is talking out of their... Well. Let's not go there. If you have run krita even once, there will be a kritarc file saved.

Open a Finder window
Press alt-shift-g
A popup will open that will show /Users
Change that to ~/Library/Prefernences (and don't forget the tilde character at the beginning!
Press enter
In the finder window, remove everything that starts with "krita"

Well, I've done as you said but when I press alt+shift+g I get a pop-up that shows 'I' but with a grave (left pointing) accent on top. There's no sign of /Users.

Well... Maybe you have a localized version of OSX with different shortcuts? Use the help function in Finder to figure out what the shortcut is on your system?
