Recommended Laptop for KRITA

Fri May 05, 2017 9:50 am
Hi, I've been struggling with my old laptop (ACER running W7 with intel graphics card) trying to get Krita working, but I finally give up. It's impossible and the amount of hours spent with no results doesn`t worth it. So, I have decided to buy a new one (not only for this, It´s 8 years old), but I would like to take a good decission. Please give me choices. My budget is about 1000-1200€. No apple, please. I would like advices based in experience, I mean laptops you have working with Krita and other digital painting softwares.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Manserga,
I am using a Dell inspiron with 12Gb RAM, SSD for the system drive and Nvidia Graphics card. It is already 3-4 years old but it serves me well for everyday work. Every day I am using Krita, Photoshop and 3d software for many hours, and without issues.
When I bought it the cost was within your budget range (1000-1200 EUR), so I guess you will be able to find something similar and probably more advanced nowadays.
But I would say, only buy a laptop if you absolutely need the mobility. Hope that helps, good luck!

If that is your budget, you're close to the price of Wacom's Cintiq Companion/MobileStudio line of tablet PCs. There might be a used one at the right price. They're really nice to use if you need to be extra mobile. All the laptops I've had to deal with at work I would *not* recommend. There's a point where screen's color gamut is just too bad to paint with.

Performance wise, I've had no trouble out of laptop i3s or i5s, though I would avoid the ultra-low power line as they lack the performance to keep up with large brushes. Though, if you value light weight over responsiveness, it might be a good trade.

UrQuan3 is right, question is: do you have/use a digitiser? I use a wacom cintiq companion 2 running manjaro kde. It's the ultimate krita machine
