Well, I downloaded the newest version of Krita to my mac. It was working fine and (by the way I really love this software ) and I could save anything that I produced. Then a couple of days later after the download, I could no longer save in any format. For the .kra format, I would get a message that it was unable to produce the backup. If I tried PNG or other formats it would tell me that I needed to convert my work to RGB (which it was already in) before I could save.
Serious weirdness. I got rid of the software and downloaded and installed twice. Right now I am running on the previous version with no problems. NOW, when I go to set up a page, I don't get RGB as a choice, I am getting something called RGB Alpha (default). Could this be the problem. I know that is not on my previous version so I don't know. I am open for suggestions as to what to try. Also I am assuming Krita only saves on install to the applications file when copying from the .dmg. Are files being copied elswhere and if so (my nod to the narrator of ancient aliens) where would that be. It could be something I need to clean out that I missed. I am so opened for suggestions. I always work with the assumption that it is something that I might have done. Thanks for making such a kickin' piece of software. |

Well, I got 3.14 hoping it would resolve the problem but the problem persists. Same messages. Too bad.

RGB Alpha is RGB, that's not a mystery. I'm just not sure I get the rest of your question... Krita writes configuration data to $HOME/Library/Preferences/kritarc and custom brushes and so on to $HOME/Library/Application Support/krita. Is your image by any chance 32 bits per channel?

no, I am using the default that comes up at 16 bits per channel. I did try the 32 bits per channel but got the same thing. I do feel it's something going on with my system and I am having trouble trying to pinpoint a solution. Here is the message for saving to .kra:
Could not save /T1.kra Reason: Copying the temporary file failed: /var.folders/kt/4zvclhxn0h31spq68ywwb77c0000gn/T1.kra for output When I try to save to PNG (my go to format) I am getting this message: You can only save grayscale and RGB images to PNG before exporting to PNG (prompts me to click ok. then I get another message Could not save /T1.png Reason: Internal error Hope this helps explain somewhat what is happening. Best wishes.--jay |

Ah: Could not save /T1.kra -- you're trying to save to the root folder of your file system, and only the Root user can do that. You need to select a different folder in the file dialog.

Thanks! That solved the first part of the problem. I can now save in the Krita format.
Still cannot save in other formats. Right now, I took the file I saved in .kra and then did a "save as" and tried to save it as a jpg file. I thought it was going to work but it has frozen the program. I cannot even quit. ON PNG---it is telling me that I can that I have to convert the file to an rgb format before saving it to png. Suggestions? |

I have had two other people report that krita hangs on osx when saving as png or jpg. Unfortunately, it doesn't hang on my mac -- which makes it really hard to figure out what is going on.

Is there a way to log the action of saving the format in krita so that you can see what is going on. I would be more than happy to do that for you as I'm sure others would too otherwise you are right I don't think we're going to be able to see what's going down if it's happening intermittently.

Well, you can start krita from the terminal, like krita.app/Content/MacOS/krita and see whether something interesting is printed.

ok, I changed the 16 bit float to 16 bit integer and that did it. Also was having a lag problem but that was solved by unticking openGL. It all seems to be working now. Thank you so much for your help. I did not want to give up this software---the brushes are incredible.

Ah -- yes, png doesn't support floating point channels.
