Is Krita add "transparency mask" the same as PS "add layer mask" ?

In PS you can hit "H" and exit any current tool being used.
Is there something similar in Krita ?
"H" seems to temporarily load the hand tool but goes back to current tool when "H" is released.
Also tried "esc" key ... which does not seem to do anything.

In PS, you can hold "ctrl" and click on a layer thumbnail and that layers contents will be selected.
Is there something similar in Krita ?
