Optimize brush textures

Sun May 28, 2017 1:27 pm
I'm having a problem with using textures in brush presets. Some big textures (with resolution of 2048px) cause a brush preset to not load. It's a bug, that I've reported, but I'm looking for a workaround. It is annoying, I have to use a placeholder texture and then switch to correct one every time I start the program. And I can't share these brushes online.
It looks like textures are saved inside the brush preset for some reason. Is it necessary? Can I turn it off?

Is there no solution to this problem?

Is there a reason why you can't share the brushes online? Because it'll be a lot easier to try and find out what's wrong if we can actually test it ourselves.

I had a similar problem with a missing preset a few weeks ago. Check the pattern blacklist file (if you're on Windows, its located at C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\krita\ko_patterns.blacklist). Perhaps your pattern is on there and preventing Krita from loading it at launch? If that's the case, clear out the blacklist file and try again.

Huh. I didn't expect the .kpp files to include textures, but it sure seems that way. I don't think you can elect not to include the texture in the brush, no. Perhaps it's to avoid having some funky null-value for the pattern.

There are no patterns in a blacklist. Just big textures prevent from brush loading.
This part about sharing online was about presets being corrupted, so they cannot be inclued in brush packs. I can add an example, sure. You can download an example brush and texture from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By_4iv ... ljQzg/view

Hmm, no idea, sorry. :(
If the issue is that Krita doesn't allow you to work with patterns over a certain size then sizing down the pattern is obviously the easiest way out. Brush with a 1024x1024 pattern (preset file at 3,602 KB) loads just fine for me. Frankly, I don't see why you'd need such a large texture for a brush either, but that's none of my business.

Actually, some of 2k textures work. It seems to be a problem with file size, like there's a limit on brush preset size that can be loaded.
I like big textures, for brushes that go all over the canvas (like watercolour) it seems to be a good size.

Yes, brush tip images are limited to 1000x1000, mostly because Krita couldn't handle more than 1000px. 4.0 is capable of this, but I don't know if that includes predefined brush-tips, and do keep in mind that the larger the brush size, the more pixels are being changed and thus the more memory a single brush dab takes up.

It is about brush patterns, not tips.
