Shortcut for a new layer on Mac

Thu Aug 10, 2017 5:35 pm
Dear Community,
I started to use Krita two weeks ago and I really enjoy it. But there is one thing that I am missing: a shortcut to create a new layer. Windows users simply press the INS button but I'm running krita on a Macbook. Does anyone out there have a solution (except switching back to Windows) ?
Thanks for your help

Macs are little bit underendowed when it comes to keys, but you can redefine shortcuts, including that one. Just choose something that's not yet occupied.

Thanks for your answer. I tried to find a solution in the keyboard settings but did not find anything that solved the problem. How can I define a shortcut to a key that doesn't exist on my computer?
I tried to find a substitute for the INS key out there on the www but it seems that there are different solutions for different programs, e.g. fn+return, fn+ctrl+return, fn+right cmd+delete,.... but nothing works for krita :(
Any idea?

In the meantime I have bought a Wacom tablet and would like to assign one of its keys to the layer function. But again I first need a working shortcut on my mac that I can link to the Wacom button.
While writing this I get the feeling that I'm a bit obsessed by shortcuts :o Sorry for being annoying...

Um, I might be misunderstanding you, but if you go to the settings dialog, select "Keyboard Shortcuts", then search for "Paint Layer" you will find the action for inserting a paint layer. Choose Custom, press the None button, then press any key combination you want to use. You don't need an insert key for that.

Perfect, now it works! I was thinking in a complete wrong way, it's just a setting in KRITA, thought I have to change something on my MAC. ^-^
Thank you
