Hello, recently I have a new PC, with an Intel Core i7 7700, 8 GB of RAM and integrated graphics. The hard drive is an SSD.
I have configured a dual boot Win 10 / Linux Mint. I am an illustrator and the new computer I bought it with the intention of obtaining a good performance in Krita. The truth is that the results in terms of speed in the brushstroke, with large brushes, are not good, in neither system. No noticeable difference in performance between Linux and Windows. I have tried several versions of Krita, and the results are not very good in any case. I'm somewhat disappointed, since before buying this PC I had tried Krita on a Mac laptop, with a not very modern Core i 5, I think with 8GB of RAM, and integrated graphics, and speed with up to 800 brushes Or 1000 px is very good, quite better than the one I get in my i7 with the same brushes. I do not know if it has to do with the use of multiple cores of my i7, since I read some threads in the forum, although I do not draw a definitive conclusion, nor how to configure my computer or Krita himself to get better results. I would appreciate any ideas that help me to improve the performance of my computer. Thank you! |

On that hardware Krita should fly, so there must be something fishy going on. Especially since you report the issue on both Linux and Windows. It's a bit hard to guess what's up from a distance, though.
I guess you already checked the various items in https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Slow_Brushes? Also check whether enabling/disabling opengl and instant preview makes a difference. |

First of all I thank you for the quick response, and the interest shown in solving my problem.
Following their advice, researching a little on the internet, and after many configurations and different versions of Krita installed and some tests, I think I understand what is happening, and now Krita behaves the same, or with no appreciable or substantial differences, Linux and Windows. The problem is that when I turn off the Open GL, and re-enable it, the instant preview of the brushes stops working. This behavior is common in Linux and Windows. I do not know exactly where that behavior was registered, but it disappeared when I deleted all the files Krita generated in the AppData folder, in the case of Windows, and in their equivalent Linux folders. Once this is done, as I say, the problem disappears, but reappears if I deactivate and activate Open GL again. The tests I have done with Krita 3.2.1 and some previous versions, with equal results. Another thing that improves the speed, is that the canvas has a small size "on screen", that is, reducing it, for example, with the zoom. This explains the good performance of brushes on the Mac notebook, with an i5, and a 15" screen, much smaller than my Dell of 24". A greeting! |
