Problems With Krita

Mon Aug 28, 2017 3:16 pm
I'm still having several problems with Krita that make it pretty difficult to use. I've been having these problems for quite a while, and they're still there in Krita 3.2.0, along with a couple of new problems...
I'm using Krita 3.2.0 on a Macbook Pro with OS 10.9.5...
The pan feature doesn't work correctly, and the zoom almost doesn't work at all, and it doesn't matter if I use the hotkeys or the tools, neither of them work correctly.
It seems like I used to be able to use the pinch gesture to zoom, and swipe with two fingers to pan, but not now (but I may be wrong, I can't really remember).
After I've been using Krita for a while during a session, suddenly the buttons will freeze up, and moving the cursor across the document window causes the screen to flicker white. The only thing to do is restart Krita.
And with Krita 3.2.0 there came a couple of new problems...
When I delete the contents of a layer using the delete key on the keyboard, instead of making the layer transparent like it should, it fills the layer with a color. The only way I could fix it was to delete the layer and add a new one. I think using delete from the drop down menu still worked, though.
Now a lot of the features in the drop down menus stay grayed out all of the time (for example, all of the filters are grayed out and will never become active). Sometimes restarting Krita fixes this.
It doesn't matter if Open GL is on or not, all of these problems occur either way.
That's all I can think of right now...
Thank You

I recommend to download an older version of Krita, as Krita has been buggy and unreliable as of recently.

Try look through the KDE Attic, you'll find old builds there.

Well, though I don't use a Mac, I can only tell if you have whatever issues on OS X, rolling back to an older version will almost certainly not be an improvement.

Might be a known problem. In fact, a contributor (Bernhard) already submitted some patches to support native OS X multi-touch touchpad gestures. (Though Boud hadn't been able to test it properly yet...) Not sure if this will make it in 3.3.1.

After I've been using Krita for a while during a session, suddenly the buttons will freeze up, and moving the cursor across the document window causes the screen to flicker white. The only thing to do is restart Krita.

This might be the Mac AMD-graphics-related lockup... but I'm not sure. In 3.3.0 OpenGL is explicitly disabled to prevent this from happening. Or it might be some other bug that might be fixed in a more recent version, or not... I've never had something like this on Windows anyway.

And with Krita 3.2.0 there came a couple of new problems...

Well... with the default key bindings on non-mac systems, backspace fills the layer with the background colour, while delete clears the layer. Have you checked the key bindings in the options?

Never had this.

Anyway, for any issues it'd be best to report on https://bugs.kde.org/, especially OS X ones. It will also be better if you can confirm the issues still happens with the latest version of Krita.
