so i made a simple animation of a ball bouncing once. when i tried to render the animation though it show briefly the encoding frames is at 0% then disappears. when i look at my pictures folder, it shows all the frames separately from each other and it shows me an mp4 file, but when i play it nothing comes up. is there a way to fix this?

Try a different player, like vlc.
