I've been having an ongoing issue which I've been unable to solve for a while now. Bringing it back up for possible assistance.
The built-in G'mic-qt plugin has not been functioning with the build I've been using on Ubuntu for 3.2+. When I get to a point where I'm needing some of it's functions, I've been switching to my Windows installation (gets the job done, but not very efficient. I'd rather avoid doing that as Krita feels better in Linux). My latest effort to resolve this issue was to remove Krita, delete kritarc and re-install from the Lime repository. Loading the fresh installed Krita at defaults, I load up an image and attempt to boot up the plugin. It sets for several minutes not doing anything. None of Krita's functions appear to lock up or anything, but the g'mic plugin option stays grayed for several minutes. In the configuration, it does assign the /usr/bin/ location as it should, but nothing beyond that. Anything that I am missing? |

Which build are you using? Does the 3.3.0-rc.1 appimage work?

Just now tested 3.3.0-rc.1 and it seems to be working beautifully there. Also the notes are showing that this is getting some treatment for the later releases. Glad to see that!

An update!
With 3.3.0 now available on the repository, I've attempted to do what I could to install Krita fresh and clean by first autoremove purging the installation via the terminal. I also checked for any gmic installations to uninstall (just to be on the safe side in case of any muddied waters). After installing Krita, I fired up an image and attempted to boot up the gmic plugin and immediately I'm met with an error message which said "Krita cannot find the gmic-qt plugin" |

Same here. Been that way for awhile. Trying to use G'MIC 2.0.4. No go. …And, yes, the G'MIC executable will run on its own, but Krita says, "Krita cannot find the gmic-qt plugin", and my kritarc file is good. |

I don't think the krita lime ppa includes the gmic-qt plugin. If you want to use gmic-qt, use the appimage.
