Warp Tool Presets?

Fri Sep 29, 2017 1:46 am
Does Krita have warp tool presets like Photoshop? I am learning digital painting from the Ctrl Paint site and one of the projects uses the warp preset "Arch" to bend a rectangular image into the shape of an arch. I'm trying to bend a tread pattern around a tire. This is the video: https://www.ctrlpaint.com/videos/lets-paint-a-tire-pt2
Thanks

Hi esterhase,

While there is no preset for warp tool in krita but you can achieve the same effect by manually warping the grooves over the tire. The warp transform can be found in the tool options of the transform tool.

Hi and thanks for the response. I've tried the warp tool some more since your post but the shape is sagging between the warp nodes. I have been able to improve the sag by pulling the shapes with nodes from the "Draw Anchor Points" feature but the shape is still wavy. I'm trying to get a clean, smooth bend between nodes.

Use the Cage mode instead of Warp.
It does a much better job on that kind of transformation.
Place some control points around the pattern, preferably evenly spaced, working your way either clockwise or counterclockwise.
Then close the "Cage" clicking on the first point.
The fewer control points you use, the smoother the bend will be.
Three on the left plus three on the right should be enough to create an arc.

After trying out the warp and cage a little more I was able to create the arch effect.
1. I filled in the sheet around tread "stencil" with the blue color.

2. I used the Warp Tool on the whole layer.
Image
3. Then I used the Fill Tool set to "eraser" to get rid of the blue color. This left the tread which I then stretched with the Transform Tool.
Image
4. I then fine tuned the tread with the Cage Tool.
Image
5. Then I erased some of the tread to fit it to the tire.

(I replaced the last post with the solution.) The Warp and Cage Tools are pretty handy. I stumbled on this solution by playing around with the tools on another drawing. Thanks for the suggestions. :)
