I am new to Krita and I can't seem to be able to find the pencil tool or find any help online.

Could someone point me to it?

There is a pretty extensive manual at https://docs.krita.org . https://docs.krita.org/Introduction_to_ ... aint_tools might be of interest since it explains why Krita has implemented some things that are tools in Photoshop as brush presets.

So does Krita have a brush preset thats similar to the pencil tool?

There's several pixel art presets, amongst which pixel1. Try using those.
