Touchscreen Compatibility?

Sun Jan 07, 2018 8:37 am
Hey. I use a Surface 4 Pro (I believe) and have been using Krita for nearing a year now. I'm really loving the versatility and the drawing quality--even if it sometimes runs like a slog if I add too much detail, but such is the nature of having a somewhat slow computer. That said, I've run into an issue. A brand new one. I've just discovered that, rather abruptly, my touchscreen stylus doesn't work when it comes to drawing, and neither does my finger. I don't have a drawing tablet, and I've never run into this issue before, not even in the update I'm currently using (Krita 3.1.3). My touchpad works (mouse clicks, etc). Basically, when I sweep my finger or stylus across the screen, it doesn't register the movement until I lift my pen up, and there's no mark left behind. My hover cursor still works, but when I try to add color or linework, it doesn't respond. Keyboard commands are all functioning as normal. I've briefly seen the pen work again when I tweaked the little graph in the tablet settings, but that only worked for one stroke, and I reset it out of paranoia I messed something up. Any advice I've seen has been outdated by at least a year, so I was wondering what I could do to get my touchscreen working again so I can continue drawing? I'd hate to have to find another drawing tool, especially seeming I'm in the middle of a huge project right now. Any suggestions?

First, make sure your version of Krita is up to date: the current version is 3.3.2. Then try whether resetting Krita's settings makes a difference (https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Resetti ... figuration). Then try to enable the Windows 8 Pointer API in Krita's settings. If after all that, it still doesn't work, your Windows installation is broken.

First of all, update to the latest version of Krita (3.3.2, but 3.3.3 should be released next week so you may want to update again next week).

By "touchscreen stylus", do you mean the surface pen or any N-Trig compatible stylus, or a capacitive stylus that simulates your finger? If it's the former then open the tablet settings in Krita and switch to the "Windows 8+ pointer input" option (and restart Krita for it to take effect). If you want to enable painting with a touchscreen, enable touch painting in the "tools" tab under the general settings section in Krita.
