I've accidentally picked out a new layer style. I've searched literally every menu and I can't find where the "normal" layer style is. Is there not an easy way to simply get my layer back to normal?

The layer blend mode control is similar (if not identical) to the brush blending mode controls. At first use it can be quite confusing.
The layer blend mode control is a drop down list at the top of the layer docker and it gives a list of blend mode groups, called Favourites, Arithmetic, Darken, etc. Each group can be expanded into a list (or collapsed) by clicking the small triangle icon on its left. That expanded list shows the blend modes in that group. Each blend mode has a tick box on the left. That tick box does not apply the blend mode - it adds (or removes by unticking) that blend mode to the Favourites group, for your convenience when you've found some particular blend modes that you like to use. To apply a particular blend mode, you click on the blend mode name word itself, not the tick box, either in the expanded group list or the Favourites group list. The Normal blend mode is in the Mix group, so click on the word 'Normal' in the expanded Mix group, not the tick box. I've noticed that sometimes you need to click the name word twice to activate it. I suspect that this is some kind of 'mode change' or selection highlight glitch but I can't reliably duplicate the conditions in which it happens. So click a blend mode name word a second time if it doesn't have any effect the first time. I hope this helps. |
