Disappearing files?

Sun Jan 21, 2018 12:34 am
Krita has worked fine for me for about a month now, but all of a sudden the files I was saving aren't showing up in recent files in Krita, recent documents, pictures/documents or anything. It's like they're just disappearing as soon as I save them?

I've tried testing it to see if it was a singular glitch or something, but it's continuously not showing up. Any help would be really appreciated, as the program has been great so far and I've enjoyed using it. Thank you :)

What OS? Which version of Krita? Can you find the files in your OS's file manager?

I'm having this problem. I worked on two pieces yesterday and saved them both, but this morning the files are gone. They are not listed in recent, or even in the recycle bin. I tried searching for them by name in Explorer, but nothing comes up :(

I have Windows 10, and I only installed Krita 2 days ago.

If you've saved the files from Krita, then closed Krita, Krita cannot remove those files. It must be something else, so I'm wondering whether you've got any security software running that might have put your files in quarantaine?

Using your file manager/explorer, create a folder called 'kritatest' in My Pictures or somewhere convenient where you have permission to create files/folders.

Start krita and create a new image and draw a squiggly line or whatever on the canvas. Then Export it as kritatest.jpg. Do not close krita. In your file manager, you should see it appear immediately. You may need to press the refresh button on your file manager to get a rapid response to showing the new .jpg file.

Go back to krita and Save it as kritatest.kra. You should see it in the file manager.

Close krita and make sure it's still there in the file manager.

[At this point, krita has been shown to be working fine.]

Open krita and check that you can find it and open it from krita's Open Recent listing. Then make sure you can Open it from krita by navigating the file/folder window in krita. Then close krita.

Using the file manager, make a copy of kritatest.kra and rename the copy as kritafaked.jpg.

Run any antivirus or security software you may have on your computer and when it's finished check if all three files are still in the kritatest folder.

[If the .kra file is missing then it's strict quarentining. If the kritafaked.jpg file is missing then it's very clever and strict quarentining.]

Restart your computer and check again.

[If anything is missing it's your OS messing you about or boot time security software.]

Leave them there for a couple of days of regular computer use and check if they are still there.

[If anything is missing then that is very strange.]
