Abnormal Brush Sensitivity

Thu Jan 25, 2018 1:46 am
Recently when I opened Krita I discovered that all my brushes had really strange pressure sensitivity. Even though my stokes are not forceful, the brushes end up appearing very dark, and have a very hard edge to them, as apposed to tapering off as I lift the pen off my tablet, which is usually what happens.

I have tried configuring it under the brush settings individually, but no matter what I do it doesn't seem to affect the brush stroke.

This same problem occurs with all the brushes I currently have. I have already made sure that the tablet driver is connected and up to date, and there is pressure sensitivity enabled on my tablet, which is a Wacom Intuos Draw. I have also tried adjusting the pen pressure of the stylus itself, but it doesn't help.

Changing the "Tablet Settings" under "Configure Krita" from the Settings menu also doesn't affect anything.
I am really confused as to what is causing this, as I have been using Krita with the same tablet for almost 2 years now, and this is the first time something like this has happened.

I'm wondering if this is a problem within Krita, or if something else is causing this to happen, so I can better deal with it. Thanks!

It must be something else; probably a Windows update. It looks as if Krita isn't getting tablet events at all, actually. Try to get a tablet log to verify that: https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#What_if ... y_Krita.3F. If so, try to use the Windows 8 Pointer API option in Krita, and see whether that makes a difference. That uses the Windows native system of getting

Thank you very much for the response! I have tried the Windows 8 Pointer API option, but sadly it doesn't improve the situation. I've filed a bug report, and is currently waiting for a response. Will I be sent a patch that fixes the problem if my report gets confirmed, or will I have to wait for the next Krita update and hope that something gets fixed?

Over the past couple of weeks, I've had similar pen pressure response problems with my Wacom Intuos Draw tablet using Krita on a Windows 10 system. Gimp and Photoshop on Windows 10 had similar problems but everything was fine running with a Linux operating system so it seemed to be a Windows or Wacom driver problem.

I found that setting up an application specific configuration for Krita in the Wacom tablet conrol panel (in the Pen tab) fixed the problem. You might want to try that to see if it helps.

The situation is complicated by the fact that Wacom have 'partnered' with Microsoft to work on the Windows Ink and tablet interface system so nowadays you never know if it's Windows updates or Wacom updates that are affecting your tablet.
