I've been doing some animation work in krita 3.3.3 (Linux .appimage) and I've found two serious problems when I tried to use the krita-4.1.0-pre-alpha-d0e6714-x86_64.appimage.
These problems are also present when using the Windows nightly build which I installed on a Windows 10 system. I wonder if anyone else has tried animation on the 4.1.0-pre-alpha and had any problems. The animation is quite simple and is 512 x 512 at 12fps for 29 frames with a fixed coloured background and two layers above it containing simple shapes that slide across the screen. This works fine, animates well and renders out nicely in 3.3.3. Problem 1: ---------- When opened with 4.1.0, if I try to play the animation, it spends about 7 seconds 'Regenerating cache' but the grey progess bar only goes from frame-0 to frame-3. Then, pressing the play button again gives the same cache regeneration activity for 7 seconds as the progress bar covers the next four frames. Repeated pressing of the play button eventually gets all 29 frames done and the animation plays. By this stage, the progress bar has jumped up to frame-74 even though I never put any content beyond frame-28. (3.3.3 also sends the progress bar to frame-74 but it does it quickly with one press of the play button to regenerate the cache.) Now, it will Render out in all the video formats and as an animated gif. If I make any changes, I have to go through the repeated Play button pressing actions and have 7 second wait for a four frame progress each time. Problem 2: ---------- This is bad. If I delete a layer from the animation and press the Play button, krita 4.1.0 locks up and uses 100% of one of the CPU cores. Then I have to kill it. |

Thanks for the info.
It looks like you are ready to file a bug report For your first bug, I just sent a bug report for that yesterday. I think it is the same issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391791 For the second bug, I don't believe we know about that. Could you file bug report and provide more information about how to reproduce the issue. https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=krita We get a lot of bugs and feature requests every day, so they sometimes get lost when they are only on the forum. |

I'll file the bug report tomorrow and make additional observations on the bug report you made.
Your animation file initially plays well on my Linux 4.1.0 but I can make it lock up with one small change to a frame. I'll try the onion skin on/off things as well. My animation file was made using krita 3.3.3 so I wonder if that has any bearing on the matter. https://www.dropbox.com/s/90xe1qd6nsvxx ... 1.kra?dl=0 |

For Problem 1, I've added a comment to your bug report.
It's strangely variable. When I tried your file this morning, it showed the problem but it initially played well last night. For Problem 2, I've made a bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391847 |
