How do I edit a maindoc.xml file?

I have a corrupt .kra file and I ran it through DiskInternals ZIP Repair and now I have an unzipped Krita file. I have to remove layers 15-22 and 24-31, because it says
could not load pixel data
for those layers when I try to open the repaired file. Does anyone know how to remove those layers using maindoc.xml?
