File layers and animation

Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:47 am
Hi all,

I have a question and have tried asking in the official subreddit, the Facebook group and asking Tumblr but so far no answers at all from any users or developers

As far as I can tell for painting File Layers behave very much like Smart Objects in Photoshop, that is, they work like nested files. This is very cool and great to have in Krita.

However I was trying to do a simple animation in a File Layer expecting that it would update in the main (parent?) file but it doesn't seem to be working.

I looked at the official documentation but the information there is very succinct and doesn't mention animation at all.

So the question is: Is it possible to have animation in a File Layer and show that animation in a different file?

Thanks

The first thing to note is that a File Layer brings images in from an external file, it can't send changes back to that external file.

The second point, about animation, is made in the first paragraph of the documentation: https://docs.krita.org/File_Layers
