Hello!
I am trying to render some animation I have rendered in the past with no problem. But now when I try to render a mp4 video OR gif, I get an error message saying that the directory I am saving to doesn't exist. "No such file or directory" I tried choosing a different folder. I had been saving to an external hard drive so I switched to the regular hard drive on my computer. I also tried installing the Krita update. Neither of those things fixed the problem. I've been able to export this same exact video before with no problem, so I am not sure what has changed. I've added a few new layers since but I don't see why this would affect where it's saving to. Anyone have any thoughts? |

I just tried again and strangely it allowed me to render the whole animation as an mp4....the problem seemed to be when I tried to render just a shorter selection from my animation (frame x to frame y). I don't know if this will help with troubleshooting?

Using the Krita 4.0.1 Linux appimage, I've just rendered frames 20 to 80 (set in the Animation docker) of a 126 frame animation in .mp4 and .gif with no problems.
Then I tried frames 50 to 70 (set in the Animation docker) and the Render Animation options window was set as frames 50 to 80. I changed the upper frame to 70 and it gave an error message telling me to look in the log file. At the end of the log file it shows the 'No such file or directory' error for .../frame%04d.png Rendering frames 50 to 80 had no problem. Was your error message in the rendering log file or was it shown as a Krita error message? Trying frames 10 to 30 also had an error and also did not accurately copy the Animation docker frame number range to the Rendering Animation window. These problems were present for .mp4 and .gif output formats. Can you give any more information about the OS and Krita version and the frame range you tried to use. Can you vary the frame range and see at what stage the problem occurs? |

New thoughts: Even if you don't want the intermediate .png images, Krita will create them and then delete them after use. These .png files will be stored in the same directory as the rendered animation.
If you choose the Both option in the Render animation window then you can check if the .png formation directory is the same as the video output directory. If it's not then that might be a problem. I noticed this situation when using a usb drive as the destination and also the start frame number of the .png output was 20, even though I'd set the frame range to start at 0. This may also be a problem. Whatever it is, there are inconsistencies in the internal options and values and I think a bug report will be needed. |

I've just been through it all again with no faults. I've tried all sorts of frame ranges, I've tried to induce faults by using a removable drive and then removing it with various permutations of Video and Both as output options at different stages. I've tried tricking it in various ways and I can't induce that fault again.
