Hi all,
I have the latest version of Krita, I'm trying to apply a layer style (any of them) but no matter what I do, none of them shows any effect. Am I missing an option that I should tick? I think I tried everything I can think of, applied it on different layers, restarted Krita and opened fresh new canvas... etc I tried to look for similar topics in the forum but I only found one and it said "solved" but without any replies or answers. Thank you in advance for your help! Charbel |

Its working normal here (master-branch version), I never used those, but a quick try renders the effects just fine, there is a couple of things to note though:
Its slow, on a single black circle, (5k x 5k canvas size) it takes from half to a second to show the effect, which bring us to second point. Make sure that the preview button is checked if you want to see the changes before applying them. (not checked by default), but applying the effect should work fine too. It seems (as I just quickly try on three effects), that the layer needs to have pixels (an object, stroke, paint, etc) for the effects to take place. The first time I open the dialog asks to make a "new style", and from there the rest seems to work just fine. If you can describe the exact steps you made and put a screenshot may be easier to diagnose the problem, (could also be a bug on that version too, lets see first if you just missing a step) ![]()

I'm using the Krita 4.0.3 appimage on Debian 9. I've just applied a style to a layer which has some simple coloured lines.
Here is the screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/4OCFYeJ As you can see from the tick-boxes, I've enabled Effects and have enabled the 'Drop Shadow' and 'Bevel and Emboss' styles. The 'Drop Shadow' options have been selected for viewing and editing by clicking on the label "Drop Shadow" (i.e the words themselves, not the tick boxes.) Is there anything different that you're doing that might give a hint as to why you're having difficulty? |

Thanks a lot Quiralta and ahabgreybeard for your replies, sorry for the delay in replying I thought I would get a notification by email (first time posting).
Ohh it was a silly mistake on my side after all! seeing your screenshot I realized I never noticed the check boxes next to the styles, I'm using the dark layout by default and it was less obvious for me. Maybe it's just my vision getting bad! ![]() https://imgur.com/OImKZrS Thanks again for your help, I appreciate it! |

Like Shiko, I thank Quiralta and ahabgreybeard for the screenshots. I had not noticed the checkboxes! I've been using computer graphics software since Apple 2+ days in 1982, so have romped through dozens now. Each has its own quirks, and these checkboxes are a new one for me. Now that I found them, I'm super impressed with results!

I have to admit I'm not too happy with the checkboxes myself, they often confuse me myself when I need to test something with layer styles. I just haven't found a way to improve on them.
