create template from image question

Sun Jul 01, 2018 10:54 am
hello krita members. i jus recently downloaded this software for making animation and i love it. i highly recommend this software for 2d animators both new and veteran. i have a question about the "create template from image" under file menu. i wanted to use a custom image for the picture but when i select and load an image, it says "could not load picture". what is the correct format and size of the image for it to load? thank you.

Sounds like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395894 -- I tried to reproduce that but couldn't, which makes me think it might be a Windows-only problem. The template system, though, is ancient and hoary and together with the rest of the resource system I'm working on replacing it.

I've been confused by this in the past and I've noticed the following points when using Krita on Linux:

You can use an external image for the group display image but if you create a new group, you must add an image to the group or it will not exist when you try to find it in the File -> New window. I had no problem using an external image (a .png file). I've no idea why it told you that it couldn't load the image and it seems, from boudewijn's comment that it will be overhauled soon.

Have you tried opening the external image first in Krita and then doing File -> Create Template from Image?
