onion skins shortcut not working

Sun Jul 01, 2018 1:57 pm
Hi. I assigned a shortcut key for onion skins which is found under configure krita > shortcuts and under the krita>animation section. but when i pressed the key assigned to onion skins it doesn't work. I assigned other keys for other function and those works. is this a bug? thank you.

Using Krita 4.0.3 and 4.1.0 Linux appimage, I've just assigned Shift+K as the keyboard shortcut for toggling the onion skins on and off. However, there is a 'wrinkle' in the operation that might have confused you (it confused me).

For the keyboard toggle to work, the onion skins have to be first turned on by clicking the small lightbulb icon to the right of the layer identifier so that it shows 'rays of light' coming out of it. When the onion skins are turned on in this way, the keyboard toggle then overides the lightbulb setting and toggles the onion skins on and off. However, it does not overide the appearance of the lightbulb icon. So, you can have a situation where the lightbulb icon seems to be 'on' but there are no onion skins because this had been overidden by a keyboard shortcut toggle action.

This is confusing (to say the least) and I believe it is a UI error. Can anyone confirm my observations?

EDIT: I've just realised that this keyboard toggle action does actually change the settings of the onion skins as can be seen by having the onion skin controls visible when doing it. It actually turns off/on the onion skins themselves and does not turn on/off the lightbulb. My previous comments about being confusing still apply. In normal use, I wouldn't expect anyone to have the onion skins docker visible since once it's been set up how you like it then you'd tend to leave it alone. I believe that the keyboard toggle should affect the operation of the lightbulb icon and not the onion skin settings themselves.

It may be that I've misunderstood the principles behind all this, in which case someone please say so.
