Erase Vector Lines?

Tue Jul 03, 2018 2:45 pm
I´m sorry,
it´s boring me, too, but every little step I do on digital drawing work leads to another question:
How to erase vector lines in krita?

[I did not find an answer on the so called internet:)]

That would depend on what you mean by erase, thus:

To remove an edge from a poligon/shape, use the edit shapes tool, then select the two nodes of the desired line(by dragging the mose to show the "selection rectangle" or by clicking on the edge itself, then on the tools options, there is a few icons to manipulate the nodes, chose the break a segment.

If you doing single lines and want to undo them, just hit the Ctrl+z key to undo.

To delete a single line/shape made with the line tool/shape tools, select it, then press the delete key.

If you mean erasing as when you do on regular raster image, with a preset (brush), that would not work unless you transform the layer to raster, which in turn will not let you modify as SVG any more.

Thank you.
Yes, I meant a "regular deleting" with a digital rubber.

I wanted to redraw a sharp horn, and did it with a thin vector line.

Ah, I see, indeed you can't do it that way, but you may want to manipulate the vector lines to create the desired effects, edges, etc. sometimes even using a border-less shape works better than lines, but you have to experiment a little with it. :)

I do not realy get that:
What is the disadvantage of thin vector lines? I NEED the lines:).

Borderless shape? I worked a little with "Toon Boom Studio": Vector Lines had a thin (blue) leading "line" in the middle, pixel lines had a thin (blue) "line" on every outside of the line.
Do you mean something like that? How to make a borderless line / shape visible? I did not find an option in krita.

A vector shape has a line around its border and an interior. These two can be different colours. The line can be of varible thickness or no thickness.

You NEED to experiment with the various options and properties to see what effect they have: https://imgur.com/S68WFFy

As ahabgreybeard explained, I meant the outline of the vector, shown as shown in the image.

The outlines of shapes, and lines, are not as easy to change in shape as the "fill" of the shape itself, e.g. the line/outline will always be same thickness, you can change the end points but is too limited.

When you mentioned early a "sharp horn" I got the impression you are doing something like this https://i.imgur.com/cIAZvZB.png, (something I did a while ago, check the eyelash contour) and https://i.imgur.com/BgBQPC4.png, I like lots of sharp corners lines :D. By manipulating border-less (or outline-less, terms may vary) you can achieve "lines" too, but that are easy to transform. Yet, I may have mistaken what you want to achieve.

Even if working with outlines to later fill them with color as in line-arts, I personally (if using SVG) rather the above approach. But you can also achieve sharp corners by selecting them in the tools options for the outline, next to the thickness box, there is a button for the corners and ends styles. :)

Every tutorial about vectors mainly talks about the "no pixels advantage" (by scaling)...

Generally I want to draw lines, and do not want to deform shapes instead of drawing. I used the rectangle just because it saved some time.
In Toon Boom Studio vector lines are THE lines (with invisible stroke-lines), and coloring is coloring.

Working with shapes "filled" with colors is absolutely new to me, and I´d never thought about working that way.
But, now I understand why there is no brush tip on the freehand vector tool in krita.

I try...
