Hello everyone, Sorry to trouble you but I can't seem to find a method for deleting unused embedded layer styles in my images.

Is there some kind of style manager somewhere ? I'm afraid I couldn't find one, or any documentation about one. Or failing that, is there a way of editing the .asl file in the .kra save file (opening it with a text editor doesn't work unfortunately) ?

thank you for your time.

Hi escott,

I can confirm for the UI dialog.
Maybe you already know that you can manually delete them by going to the folder: /.share/krita/asl/.
they are binary files, not editable with regular text editors I guess.

:)

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I couldn't find /.share/krita/asl on windows 8.1 but perhaps you were making a reference to the folder that you can access through the Settings -> Manage Resources... -> Open Resource Folder ? On my computer the path is AppData/Roaming/Krita/asl - that was where I found a customStyles.asl that I inadvertently created as I was fiddling around... is that what you meant ?

The embedded styles for the image are in the .kra save file itself, as far as I can tell. If I delete image/annotations/layerstyles.asl it kind of breaks all the embedded layer styles until I save/re-open, but that sounds logical as I'm pretty sure that's where they're kept ^^

But maybe I'm just understanding this all wrong - does every layer have a style associated with it, even if it's not used? It does seem that I can can share the same style between several layers, which made me think that I could get rid of the unused ones... but it's possible I'm misconceiving how layer styles work internally.

edit : just realised the .kra file structure depends on the image title ^^'

yes

Right. The until part: the file is re-created by just invoking the Layer Style dialogue. Once deleted the asl file though, the styles will be lost.

I'm not sure how the styles are referenced internally, if it's in the asl file itself or in each layer file within the "layers" folder.

hm, I don't think it's possible without using an hex editor which sounds quite challenging for regular users like me.
